Exceleration Music Acquires Mack Avenue Music Group

Exceleration Music has acquired Detroit-based Mack Avenue Music Group, bringing the jazz label and its roster under Exceleration’s independent-music umbrella alongside Candid Records. The deal will combine Mack Avenue’s catalog and team (led by former Mack Avenue president Denny Stilwell) with Exceleration’s distribution, marketing and technology resources to expand the company’s reach in jazz and improvised music.

Exceleration Music Acquires Redeye Distribution (including Yep Roc, Sundazed, Riff City Sounds)

Exceleration Music has acquired Redeye, the US-based digital and physical distribution and music services company, in a deal that also includes Redeye’s in-house labels Yep Roc and Sundazed and publishing company Riff City Sounds. Redeye founders Glenn Dicker and Tor Hansen remain shareholders and will continue to lead the business, while Exceleration provides additional resources to expand distribution, label and publishing services globally.

Concord Acquires Mojo Music & Media Publishing Catalog

Concord has acquired the music publishing catalog of Mojo Music & Media, adding more than 30,000 songs — including works by REO Speedwagon, KISS and Cheap Trick — to its publishing portfolio. The deal expands Concord's catalog and follows Concord's broader strategic accumulation of publishing assets and recent bid activity in the music-rights market.

Firebird Music Holdings, a newly formed music operating company led by Nat Zilkha and Nathan Hubbard and backed by institutional investors, has acquired stakes (often majority) in a series of music businesses including Red Light Management, Mick Management, Transgressive Records, Defected Records, Tape Room, One Two Many Music, NTERTAIN and others. Firebird — which says it has access to more than $1 billion in equity and is backed by investors including The Raine Group, KKR Partners and Goldman Sachs Asset Management — is building an integrated artist-focused platform offering label, publishing, management and label-service capabilities while allowing portfolio companies to retain their brands and creative autonomy.

HarbourView Equity Partners Acquires Brad Paisley Recorded Music Catalog

HarbourView Equity Partners has acquired the recorded music rights catalog of country artist Brad Paisley. The transaction expands HarbourView's growing music and entertainment portfolio; terms were not disclosed. Fox Rothschild LLP served as legal counsel to HarbourView and Brad Paisley was represented by Greenberg Traurig.

Concentric Investment Partners and New Canaan Funding provided financing for the transaction; founders Mark Thacker and Chad Meyer remain significant owners and will stay active in the company.
