SpartanNash Acquires Shop-N-Save Food Centers

SpartanNash has acquired Shop-N-Save Food Centers, a three-store grocery chain in northwestern Michigan, converting the Benzonia, Fremont and Ludington locations to its Family Fare banner and retaining employment for all associates. Shop-N-Save, founded by William "Bill" DeVries and a SpartanNash distribution customer for nearly 25 years, will expand SpartanNash's Family Fare footprint across the Midwest.

SpartanNash Acquires Metcalfe's Market

SpartanNash has acquired Metcalfe's Market, a three-store Wisconsin grocery chain, expanding SpartanNash's Wisconsin footprint to seven stores. SpartanNash will retain Metcalfe's storefront, branding and employees, and bring its private-label offerings and loyalty program to the acquired stores; terms were not disclosed.

LaSalle Capital and Lightspring Complete Acquisition of Great Lakes Potato Chips

LaSalle Capital, in partnership with Lightspring Capital I, LP, has completed the acquisition of Great Lakes Potato Chips, a Traverse City, Michigan-based kettle-cooked potato chip manufacturer founded by Ed and Chris Girrbach. The founders remain involved (Chris Girrbach will stay on as CEO) and the buyers intend to accelerate growth into new states and accounts across retail, foodservice distributors and direct-to-consumer channels.

RelaDyne Acquires Great Lakes Lubricants

RelaDyne, the national lubricant distributor, has acquired Great Lakes Lubricants, a Grand Rapids, Michigan–based petroleum products and lubricants distributor with three locations across the state. The deal expands RelaDyne’s presence and product/service offerings in Michigan and strengthens its capabilities in commercial fleet and industrial manufacturing markets.

Watco Acquires Great Lakes Central Railroad

Watco has received federal approval from the Surface Transportation Board to acquire the 420-mile Great Lakes Central Railroad (GLC). The acquisition, effective September 28, requires Watco to keep currently active GLC gateways open on commercially competitive terms and follows Watco's prior equity investment in GLC since 2013.

GrubMarket Acquires Grand Food Inc.

GrubMarket has completed the acquisition of Grand Food Inc., a Hayward, California–based protein provider, making GrubMarket a major supplier of frozen meat and seafood in the San Francisco Bay Area. The deal brings Grand Food's processing capabilities, customer relationships with grocery chains, restaurants and online grocers, and access to production facilities in California, the Midwest and Europe into GrubMarket's network and WholesaleWare platform.
