John Rhoades, through his investment vehicle Benbow Ventures, acquired local media site NEXTpittsburgh from founder and former publisher Tracy Certo effective January 1. Rhoades said he plans to work with the existing team to continue the publication's mission of covering Pittsburgh and expand its offerings.

Postmedia Network Canada Corp. has completed the acquisition of all issued and outstanding shares of Brunswick News Inc. from J. D. Irving, Limited, adding BNI's daily and weekly newspapers, digital properties and its parcel delivery business to Postmedia's portfolio. The transaction was valued at $7.5 million in cash plus $8.6 million in variable voting shares of Postmedia, and Postmedia says the acquisition expands its national news footprint and parcel delivery capabilities across Canada.
