Cape May Brewing Co. Acquires Flying Fish Brewing Co.

Cape May Brewing Co. has acquired all assets of Flying Fish Brewing Co., including its Somerdale tasting room, in a deal intended to expand Cape May's production, warehouse capacity and regional distribution. Beers from both breweries will continue to be sold independently while Cape May leverages the acquisition to grow its craft beer, hard seltzer and malt beverage offerings across New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Chicago-based private investment firm Uncommon Equity LLC has acquired Grand Rapids-based Project BarFly, LLC, which does business as HopCat, a regional casual dining and craft-beer restaurant group operating 12 Michigan locations and one in Lincoln, Nebraska. Financial terms were not disclosed; senior debt was provided by OakNorth Bank PLC and Rob Selati will participate as a strategic investor through Saxonwold Capital as part of the new ownership group.

The two Brooklyn-based, family-run smoked-fish producers will combine operations (Banner moving from Coney Island into Acme’s Greenpoint facility), with Banner founder Avi Attias and his son Eli joining Acme as the company expands its product portfolio — including Banner’s CRC‑certified kosher line — and pursues national growth and a larger Florida production site.
