Fleet Feet Acquires Marathon Sports

Fleet Feet, the largest franchisor of locally owned running stores, has agreed to acquire New England-based Marathon Sports, including its soundRUNNER and Runner's Alley brands and e-commerce business. The deal—timed with the retirement of Marathon Sports owners Colin and Penny Peddie—will keep Marathon Sports as a wholly owned, separately operated subsidiary headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts; financial terms were not disclosed.

Fleet Feet Acquires South Sound Running Stores

Fleet Feet has acquired South Sound Running's two retail locations in Olympia and Puyallup, which will re-open as Fleet Feet Olympia and Fleet Feet Puyallup in early 2025. Local Fleet Feet franchisees Wade and Julie Pannell — who operate six other Washington stores — will operate the locations following the retirement sale by founders Greg Klein and Joan Marchioro.

Arklyz Group, owner of The Athlete's Foot, has acquired Shoe City, a Baltimore-based sneaker and streetwear retail chain, together with its online platform ycmc.com. The acquisition adds approximately 40 retail locations in the DC-Maryland-Virginia (DMV) region and aims to accelerate omnichannel growth by integrating Shoe City into The Athlete's Foot organization.

Fleet Feet Acquires JackRabbit

Fleet Feet has acquired JackRabbit, bringing all JackRabbit retail locations across 15 states and the jackrabbit.com e-commerce business into the Fleet Feet network. The deal, completed in early December 2021 from affiliates of CriticalPoint Capital, expands Fleet Feet's national footprint to roughly 250 locally owned and operated running stores and strengthens its omnichannel capabilities.

Park City-based ski boot retailer Surefoot, L.C. has acquired Los Angeles-based FrontRunners and New York City-based Super Runners Shops. The deal will relocate the acquired companies' headquarters to Surefoot's Park City offices and integrate Surefoot's custom footwear/orthotic technology into the running-store locations.

Foot Solutions Acquires Happy Feet Plus

Foot Solutions, an Alpharetta, Georgia-based specialty footwear and custom orthotics retailer, has acquired Florida-based Happy Feet Plus. The deal — terms not disclosed — expands Foot Solutions' retail footprint in Florida, adds experienced retail talent and product-innovation capability, and continues the company's growth following its 2020 investor-backed ownership change.
