Mrs. Gerry's Kitchen, a portfolio company of Sequel Holdings, has acquired Garden-Fresh Foods. Alantra acted as exclusive financial advisor to Garden-Fresh; the family owners (Tom and Vicki Hughes and their sons) and CEO John Colapinto will remain involved after the sale, and the deal brings together two prepared-salad manufacturers to expand scale and capabilities in refrigerated ready-to-eat foods.

Pete & Gerry's Organics Acquires Farmers Hen House

Pete & Gerry's Organics, LLC has acquired Kalona, Iowa-based Farmers Hen House, a supplier of Certified Humane organic, free-range and pasture-raised shell eggs. The acquisition adds over 90 partner family farms and a modern processing facility in Iowa, increasing Pete & Gerry's packing capacity and supporting growth across the Midwest and West; terms were not disclosed.

Lindsay Goldberg Acquires Controlling Interest in Golden State Foods

Bain Capital Acquires Dessert Holdings from Gryphon Investors

Bain Capital Private Equity has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Dessert Holdings, a St. Paul–based premium dessert platform that includes The Original Cakerie, Lawler’s Desserts, and Atlanta Cheesecake Company. The acquisition from Gryphon Investors will support Dessert Holdings’ next stage of growth—pursuing product innovation, organic expansion and add-on opportunities—and is expected to close in Q2 2021 (debt financing led by Antares Capital).

Chairmans Foods (Sequel Holdings) Acquires Mrs. Grissom's Salads

Chairmans Foods, a Sequel Holdings portfolio company, acquired Mrs. Grissom's Salads in April 2021 as an add-on to expand its refrigerated prepared foods and grab-and-go offerings. The acquisition brings Mrs. Grissom's pimento cheese spreads, dips and protein salads into Chairmans' retail and foodservice product set and strengthens relationships with retail deli/dairy departments.

Sequel Holdings, L.P. acquired Star Seed, Inc. from Gladstone Investment Corporation (Gladstone Investment) on December 21, 2018. Gladstone Investment sold its equity interest and prepaid its debt investment in Star Seed, a Kansas-based seed distributor with strengths in native grasses, wildflowers, forages and small grains; Gladstone said the sale generated a realized gain.
