Celanese Acquires Santoprene TPV Elastomers Business from Exxon Mobil

Celanese Corporation has completed the acquisition of the Santoprene TPV elastomers business from Exxon Mobil Corporation for $1.15 billion. The transaction includes Santoprene, Dytron and Geolast trademarks and product portfolios, customer and supplier contracts, R&D and IP, two production facilities (Pensacola, Florida and Newport, Wales) with ~190 kt annual capacity, and approximately 320 employees.

ExxonMobil Chemical Company has acquired Materia, Inc., a Pasadena-based developer of high-performance structural polymers and Nobel Prize‑winning ROMP catalyst technology. The acquisition gives ExxonMobil ownership of Materia’s IP, R&D center in Pasadena and manufacturing facility in Huntsville, Texas, enabling commercial-scale production of Materia’s Proxima polymers for markets including wind energy, electric vehicles and sustainable construction.

Pexco LLC, a PE-backed North American specialty plastics extruder, acquired Performance Elastomers Corporation (PEC), a Ravenna, Ohio-based manufacturer of rubber, silicone and thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) products. The deal — announced December 1, 2021 — expands Pexco's silicone and TPE capabilities and broadens its end-market exposure in mobility, RV, marine and heavy equipment aftermarket segments; PEC owners Art Bowen and Dave Spears sold the business.

Trinseo (NYSE:TSE) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire API Applicazioni Plastiche Industriali S.p.A., a Mussolente, Italy-based producer of thermoplastic elastomers and bioplastics. The purchase, funded from Trinseo's cash on hand, includes API’s Mussolente manufacturing and research facilities and is expected to close in Q3 2017; API’s management and employees will join Trinseo and the Brunetti family will support the transition.
