Central Garden & Pet completed the acquisition of Leading Edge Associates, Inc. and Leading Edge Aero Technologies, Inc., two Daytona Beach–based developers and manufacturers of large commercial drones and supporting software; the deal closed on November 6, 2024. The purchase brings drone hardware and precision-application software capabilities into Central’s pet and garden portfolio to support mosquito/vector control, weed control and precision farming solutions.

Central Garden & Pet (NASDAQ: CENT) acquired D&D Commodities Ltd., a premium bird feed manufacturer headquartered in Stephen, Minnesota, adding the 3D, Wild Delight, Better Bird and L'Avian Plus brands to its portfolio. The deal (closed June 30) expands Central's bird feed category capabilities and strengthens its relationships with major retailers, farm & feed stores, garden centers and online channels.

Central Garden & Pet Acquires Hopewell Nursery

Central Garden & Pet has entered into an agreement to acquire Hopewell Nursery, a live goods grower headquartered in Bridgeton, New Jersey. The acquisition expands Central's live goods business and scale in the Northeast; Hopewell operates over 1,800 acres, employs approximately 500 people, and the deal is expected to close December 31, 2020 (terms undisclosed).

Mars Petcare Acquires Champion Petfoods (ORIJEN & ACANA)

Mars Petcare (part of Mars, Incorporated) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Champion Petfoods, the Edmonton-based maker of premium pet food brands ORIJEN and ACANA, from an investor group led by Bedford Capital and the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan. The undisclosed-value transaction — which brings Champion's more than 800 employees into the Mars Petcare family — is expected to close in the first half of 2023 and will expand Mars' premium pet nutrition portfolio and global distribution footprint.
