Education Acquisitions in South Carolina

Vista Higher Learning has acquired MyConversationTrainer, an AI-powered Spanish conversation practice platform developed by Professor Antonio Pérez-Núñez. The deal (terms undisclosed) adds AI-driven conversation activities and personalized feedback to Vista’s language-learning product portfolio to support instructors and learners in K–12 and higher education.

Edcetera, a Waukesha-based provider of online continuing education, has acquired DCHours.com, a leading continuing education platform for Doctors of Chiropractic. The acquisition adds chiropractic-focused CE content (DCHours has served more than 40,000 chiropractors since 2008) to Edcetera's healthcare education offering; DCHours founder Dr. Guy Annunziata joins the Edcetera family.

Riverside Insights, a portfolio company of Alpine Investors, acquired Aperture Education, a provider of research-based social and emotional learning (SEL) assessments for K-12 schools. The deal adds Aperture's DESSA SEL assessment suite to Riverside's portfolio of ability and achievement assessments to expand its K-12 assessment capabilities and reach.

Lockstep Technology Group, a Renovus Capital Partners portfolio company, has acquired BridgeTek Solutions, a Piedmont, South Carolina-based provider of education IT solutions. The deal expands Lockstep's education-focused service offerings — including cybersecurity, managed services, devices, VR and cloud solutions — and accelerates its geographic reach across the Southeast.

BARBRI Global, a Francisco Partners-backed legal education provider headquartered in Dallas, acquired PowerScore, a test-preparation leader for the LSAT and other standardized exams. The acquisition expands BARBRI's offerings at the front end of the legal education lifecycle and aims to accelerate PowerScore's growth through technology and new product-delivery methods.

Modern Campus has acquired nuCloud, a provider of customizable interactive campus maps and virtual tour SaaS for colleges and universities. The acquisition integrates nuCloud's mapping and virtual tour capabilities into Modern Campus' Omni CMS and personalization engine to expand its higher-education engagement offerings and improve digital campus experiences.

Surgent, a Spire Capital portfolio company, has acquired Pharmaceutical Education Consultants, Inc. (PharmCon), the operator of FreeCE.com, expanding Surgent into the healthcare professional continuing education market. The add-on acquisition will let Surgent leverage its technology and shared services to enhance PharmCon's webinar and on-demand CE offerings and pursue new healthcare education opportunities.
