Retail Acquisitions in Massachusetts

Fisher Auto Parts has acquired Genden Auto Parts, a second-generation family business that operates seven locations across western Massachusetts, northern Connecticut, southern Vermont and southwestern New Hampshire. The deal expands Fisher's New England footprint and complements its new 217,000 sq. ft. Chicopee distribution center; Genden owner John Lamoureux will continue to lead store and battery-truck operations.

Shlok Spirits Corp., led by Vishil Patel, acquired International Beverage Center, Inc. dba SPIRITED Wines, a premium wine and spirits retailer in Lenox, Massachusetts. The transaction closed on August 20, 2024, with Generational Group advising the seller.

Credo Beauty, the San Francisco-based clean beauty retailer, has acquired Boston-based Follain and will absorb its online retail business and Beacon Hill storefront. Follain’s branded skincare line will join Credo’s owned brand portfolio and Follain founder Tara Foley will remain on as an advisor during the transition before focusing on consulting.

Fleet Feet, the largest franchisor of locally owned running stores, has agreed to acquire New England-based Marathon Sports, including its soundRUNNER and Runner's Alley brands and e-commerce business. The deal—timed with the retirement of Marathon Sports owners Colin and Penny Peddie—will keep Marathon Sports as a wholly owned, separately operated subsidiary headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts; financial terms were not disclosed.

ArcLight Capital Partners has acquired Pride Stores, a 31-location convenience store and gas station chain headquartered in Springfield, Massachusetts. Capstone Partners advised Pride and owner Robert (Bob) Bolduc on the sale; ArcLight — an energy-focused private equity firm — plans to steward and grow the business while maintaining local operations and services.

Hydrobuilder Holdings LLC acquired New England Hydroponics, adding five retail locations and warehouse capacity in Massachusetts and Maine and marking Hydrobuilder’s entry into the Northeastern U.S. The acquisition expands Hydrobuilder’s omnichannel footprint to 22 retail locations and 9 warehouses and is intended to accelerate growth in the Commercial and retail CEA (controlled-environment agriculture) markets.

Cresco Labs has closed its acquisition of Cultivate, a vertically integrated Massachusetts cannabis operator with three dispensaries and approximately 42,000 square feet of active cultivation canopy. The deal increases Cresco's in-state cultivation to ~64,000 square feet and expands its retail footprint in Massachusetts as part of a strategy to deepen presence in large, attractive state markets.

OvareVentures, part of the OvareGroup holding company, has purchased Kenver, Ltd., a Massachusetts-based specialty sportswear and outdoor retail boutique. The acquisition expands OvareVentures' outdoor retail portfolio and will support growth across Kenver's physical retail and eCommerce channels.

GrowGeneration Corp. has acquired Aquarius Hydroponics, a hydroponics and garden supply retailer based in Agawam, Massachusetts. The deal gives GrowGeneration its first location in Massachusetts and adds Aquarius's ~14,600 sq. ft. store and 10 employees to GrowGen's growing network of specialty hydroponic garden centers.

Camping World Holdings agreed to acquire the two Flagg RV dealership locations in Uxbridge and West Boylston, Massachusetts, plus additional land in Griswold, Connecticut, with the transaction expected to close in April 2021. The locations will be rebranded as Camping World SuperCenters as the company expands its dealer network and increases its presence in New England.
