Biotechnology Acquisitions in 2013

SeraCare Life Sciences acquired Kirkegaard & Perry Laboratories (KPL) to expand its portfolio of antibodies, reagents and related consumables for diagnostic research. The deal broadens SeraCare's product offering into additional diagnostic areas (oncology, autoimmune, allergy and companion diagnostics) and was supported by new financing and a debt refinance provided by Madison Capital Funding and BB&T Capital Partners.

Brooks Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq: BRKS) signed a definitive agreement to acquire the assets and business of Matrical, Inc. for approximately $10 million in cash. The Spokane, Washington–based provider of biological sample preparation, management and storage solutions will join Brooks’ Life Science Systems business to expand its capabilities and penetration in the Agbio and broader life sciences markets.
