Cybersecurity Acquisitions in Illinois

LevelBlue has completed its acquisition of Trustwave, combining the two companies to form the world's largest pure-play managed security services provider. The deal brings together LevelBlue's AI-driven cloud MSS capabilities with Trustwave's market-leading MDR, SpiderLabs threat intelligence, and offensive security services; financial terms were not disclosed.

Abacus Group, a global managed IT and cybersecurity provider, has acquired Entara, a Chicago-based managed services and managed security provider known for incident response and AI-enabled ServiceNow capabilities. The acquisition expands Abacus Group's cybersecurity and professional services offerings, strengthening its ability to serve financial services and other highly regulated enterprise clients.

Riverside Research, a U.S. national security nonprofit, has acquired Cog Systems, a developer of secure virtualization and cryptographic solutions for mobile and IoT devices. The acquisition strengthens Riverside Research's cyber resilience and hardware-backed secure-computing capabilities to accelerate delivery of defense-grade, end-to-end security solutions for government and mission-critical customers.

Dragos Inc. has acquired Network Perception, maker of the NP-View OT network visualization and compliance platform, to integrate advanced network visibility, segmentation, and compliance analysis into the Dragos Platform. The acquisition expands Dragos's OT security capabilities—helping customers map real and potential network connections, validate segmentation, and streamline compliance for sectors such as energy, utilities, oil & gas, and manufacturing.

Cyber Advisors, a Goldner Hawn-backed IT solutions and managed services provider, has acquired BAI Security, a Lincolnshire, Illinois–based offensive cybersecurity testing and GRC firm. The deal, which closed July 10, 2024, positions Cyber Advisors to expand its security assessment, red team and compliance capabilities while BAI Security's founders retain minority ownership and will serve as strategic advisors.

Drata, a San Diego-based compliance automation platform, has acquired oak9, a Chicago-based cloud-native security company specializing in infrastructure-as-code security. The acquisition brings oak9's pre-built tests and SDLC integrations into Drata's platform to enable "Compliance as Code," allowing DevSecOps and GRC teams to identify and remediate compliance issues earlier in the software development lifecycle.

The MC² Security Fund, an affiliate of The Chertoff Group, has completed its acquisition of Trustwave, a global leader in managed detection and response and managed security services. The deal pairs Trustwave's MDR, MSS and threat-intelligence capabilities with MC² and The Chertoff Group's security advisory and industry relationships to accelerate Trustwave's growth and extend its reach across commercial and public sector markets.

Yuengling's Ice Cream Corporation (OTC: YCRM) announced the acquisition of ReachOut Technology, a managed service provider focused on cybersecurity and IT services. As part of the transaction Rick Jordan will assume the role of President & CEO and join the board of Yuengling's, while outgoing executives will assist with the transition.

Rockwell Automation completed its acquisition of Verve Industrial Protection to expand its industrial cybersecurity offerings, integrating Verve's Verve Security Center into Rockwell's Lifecycle Services. The deal brings vendor-agnostic OT asset inventory and vulnerability management capabilities to Rockwell's customers and will be showcased at Rockwell's Automation Fair.

MajorKey Technologies, backed by The Acacia Group, has acquired Chicago-based identity and cloud security firm Legion Star. The deal adds roughly 40 identity and cloud security specialists to MajorKey, expanding its identity governance, access management, and cloud security capabilities and positioning the combined business as a leading pure-play identity security provider.

Rocket Software, a Boston-area enterprise software company, has acquired Key Resources, Inc. (KRI), a mainframe security and vulnerability identification specialist founded in 1988. The acquisition expands Rocket's mainframe security capabilities and adds KRI's products and consulting expertise to Rocket's portfolio to help customers address mainframe security, compliance, and hybrid-cloud modernization needs.

Sysnet Global Solutions has acquired Viking Cloud to enhance its cloud security platform, broaden its compliance and threat-detection capabilities, and accelerate enterprise market expansion. The deal combines Viking Cloud's next-generation asset, event and compliance management technology with Sysnet's payment security and compliance services; Viking Cloud CEO Robert McCullen will become Executive Chairman of Sysnet.

Sysnet Global Solutions has acquired SecureTrust, a division of Trustwave, and purchased a portion of Trustwave’s MSS business focused on the hospitality sector. The deal expands Sysnet’s PCI-compliance, QSA and managed security capabilities and geographic coverage, creating the world’s largest Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) organization; Sysnet is backed by FTV Capital and True Wind Capital.

Mimecast Limited acquired eTorch Inc., d/b/a MessageControl, a messaging security provider that uses machine learning to detect anomalous email behavior and stop social-engineering attacks. The acquisition strengthens Mimecast's Email Security 3.0 strategy by adding real-time contextual warnings, misaddressed-email prevention and ML-based user-graph detection to its Microsoft 365 and email protection offerings.

MVB Financial Corp. (through a wholly-owned subsidiary of MVB Bank) has acquired Paladin, LLC, a fraud prevention and consulting firm. The acquisition strengthens MVB's fintech vertical and expands its fraud-prevention capabilities and services for merchants, credit agencies and fintech clients.

Trustwave has acquired Intellitactics, a provider of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) technology, with deal terms remaining confidential. Trustwave said it will integrate Intellitactics' SIEM capabilities into its data protection architecture to broaden its security and compliance offerings across enterprise, government and SMB customers.

Trustwave has acquired Mirage Networks, a developer of patented Network Access Control (NAC) technology, to integrate Mirage's endpoint compliance and behavioral policy enforcement into Trustwave's managed security services. Financial terms were not disclosed; the acquisition expands Trustwave's managed security and NAC capabilities for enterprise customers.
