Independence Pet Group (IPG) has completed the acquisition of Fairfax Financial’s U.S. and Canadian interests in the Crum & Forster Pet Insurance Group (C&F Pet) and Pethealth Inc., bringing multiple pet insurance brands and pet-wellbeing services onto IPG's platform. The deal expands IPG’s footprint in the United States and Canada and increases its scale across insurance brands, shelter services and pet registry capabilities.

JAB's Pet Insurance Business Acquires Crum & Forster Pet and Pethealth from Fairfax

JAB Holding Company’s pet insurance platform (through Independence Pet Group) agreed to acquire Fairfax Financial’s interests in Crum & Forster Pet Insurance Group and Pethealth Inc., including their worldwide operations. Fairfax will receive $1.4 billion ( $1.15 billion cash and $250 million in seller notes) and will invest $200 million in JAB’s JCP V fund; the deal was expected to close in H2 2022 and expands JAB’s global pet insurance scale and capabilities.

Pinnacle Pet Group Acquires HD Assurances (Assur O'Poil) and CaptainVet to Enter French Market

Pinnacle Pet Group (PPG), a pan‑European pet insurance platform controlled by JAB Holding Company, has acquired HD Assurances (operating under the Assur O'Poil brand) and online vet booking platform CaptainVet. The acquisitions give PPG immediate scale in France, Belgium and Italy (120,000+ customers and 1,100+ vets on CaptainVet), with founder Hubert Derai remaining as Managing Director to support growth and product innovation.

CVC Acquires Majority Stake in Partner in Pet Food from Cinven

CVC Capital Partners (CVC) has agreed to acquire a majority stake in Partner in Pet Food (PPF), a pan‑European pet food manufacturer, with existing investor Cinven retaining a minority stake and continuing as a partner. PPF operates 12 production facilities across Europe, produced ~700k tonnes and generated approximately €800 million in 2023; the transaction is expected to close in 2024 subject to regulatory approvals.

VetCor Acquires People, Pets & Vets

VetCor, a PE-backed operator of veterinary practices (portfolio company of funds managed by Harvest Partners and Cressey & Company), has acquired People, Pets & Vets (PPV), a veterinarian-led network of more than 150 animal hospitals across the western and southern United States. The deal expands VetCor's national footprint and combines two multi-location veterinary operators to broaden clinical resources, support services and career opportunities for veterinary teams.

VetPartners Acquires Pet Cremation Services (PCS)

York-based veterinary group VetPartners has acquired Pet Cremation Services (PCS), a family-run pet crematoria business based in Guilsborough, Northamptonshire. PCS operates 14 sites with 153 employees and will continue to be led by managing director Glenn Tuck; VetPartners said the deal expands its end-of-life care services for pet owners and veterinary practices.
