SK Capital Acquires Canlak and Valentus Specialty Chemicals to Form Canlak Coatings

Funds advised by SK Capital Partners have acquired Canadian coatings maker Canlak Inc. and U.S.-based Valentus Specialty Chemicals and will merge the businesses to form Canlak Coatings, headquartered in North Brunswick, New Jersey. The combined company will offer a broad wood coatings portfolio (including lacquers, waterborne, UV-cured and polyurethanes) for flooring, cabinet and furniture manufacturers; Normand Guindon will serve as Executive Chairman and Robert Jamieson was named President & CEO.

Recochem Acquires Paint Over Rust Products (POR-15)

The acquisition expands Recochem's U.S. branded car care portfolio and will leverage Recochem's digital marketing capabilities and broad distribution footprint to grow POR across North America; H.I.G. Capital backed the transaction.

Universal Woods, a Capital Partners-backed manufacturer of hard-surface coated substrates, has acquired R&D Coatings, LLC, a Pittsburgh-based maker of electron beam (EB) and ultraviolet (UV) coatings. The deal brings R&D's proprietary, environmentally friendly coating capabilities and customer relationships into Universal Woods to accelerate product development and support Universal's growth plans as part of its private equity-backed expansion.

Sherwin-Williams Acquires German Wood Coatings Business (Oskar Nolte & Klumpp Coatings)

The Sherwin-Williams Company has agreed to acquire Specialized Industrial Coatings Holding (SIC Holding), a venture comprising German wood-coatings makers Oskar Nolte GmbH and Klumpp Coatings GmbH. The combined business (approximately 220 employees; >€91.5 million sales) will join Sherwin-Williams' Performance Coatings Group, with the transaction expected to close by early 2023 pending regulatory approvals.
