Sherwin‑Williams Acquires Sika's European Industrial Coatings Business

The Sherwin‑Williams Company completed its acquisition of the European industrial coatings business of Sika AG, which will join Sherwin‑Williams' Performance Coatings Group. The business is based in Germany (with sales/technical support in Poland, Austria and Switzerland), contributes approximately CHF 75 million in 2020 sales, and about 115 Sika employees will join Sherwin‑Williams.

Sherwin-Williams Acquires Gross & Perthun GmbH

The Sherwin-Williams Company announced an agreement to acquire Gross & Perthun GmbH, a Mannheim, Germany–based developer, manufacturer and distributor of industrial coatings primarily serving the heavy equipment and transportation industries. Gross & Perthun has about 100 employees and roughly $50 million in annual sales; the business will become part of Sherwin-Williams' Performance Coatings Group and the transaction was expected to close by the end of Q3 2022.

Sherwin-Williams Acquires BASF's Suvinil Brazilian Architectural Paints Business

The Sherwin-Williams Company has completed the acquisition of BASF's Brazilian architectural paints business, Suvinil. The deal expands Sherwin-Williams' presence in Latin America by adding Suvinil's brands, manufacturing, distribution and roughly 1,000 employees to its Consumer Brands Group.

SK Capital Acquires Canlak and Valentus Specialty Chemicals to Form Canlak Coatings

Funds advised by SK Capital Partners have acquired Canadian coatings maker Canlak Inc. and U.S.-based Valentus Specialty Chemicals and will merge the businesses to form Canlak Coatings, headquartered in North Brunswick, New Jersey. The combined company will offer a broad wood coatings portfolio (including lacquers, waterborne, UV-cured and polyurethanes) for flooring, cabinet and furniture manufacturers; Normand Guindon will serve as Executive Chairman and Robert Jamieson was named President & CEO.

Saint-Gobain Acquires Business Assets of International Cellulose Corporation

Saint-Gobain has acquired the business assets of International Cellulose Corporation (ICC), a Houston-based manufacturer of spray-applied, plant-fiber insulation and acoustical finishing systems. The assets — including Ecosorb International — will join CertainTeed's Commercial Building and Infrastructure business in North America, strengthening Saint-Gobain's sustainable insulation and fireproofing portfolio; ICC operates a manufacturing site in Houston with approximately 50 employees.

Stahl Acquires WEILBURGER Graphics

Stahl has acquired Germany-based WEILBURGER Graphics, a manufacturer of water-based and energy-cured coatings, inks and adhesives for the graphic arts and packaging markets. The deal strengthens Stahl's newly formed packaging coatings division and expands its product portfolio and European presence in growth end-markets such as food & beverage, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals; financial terms were not disclosed.
