MetroNet Acquires Jaguar Communications

MetroNet (MetroNet Holdings, LLC) has acquired Owatonna, Minnesota-based Jaguar Communications, integrating the regional fiber-optic provider into its 100% fiber network to expand ultra-high-speed internet, phone and IPTV services across southern Minnesota. MetroNet expects to invest an additional $150 million or more to grow the Minnesota market; terms were not disclosed and the companies will fully integrate under the MetroNet brand.

KKR and T‑Mobile JV Acquires Metronet from Oak Hill and Cinelli Family

KKR and T‑Mobile have completed the acquisition of Metronet through a joint venture, buying the leading independent fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) operator from majority shareholders Oak Hill Capital and the Cinelli family. Metronet will operate as a wholesale network builder and commercial services provider while T‑Mobile Fiber takes responsibility for residential customers; Oak Hill and the Cinelli family will remain minority investors in the new JV. The transaction is intended to accelerate fiber deployment across underserved U.S. markets and leverage Metronet’s network engineering and build capabilities alongside T‑Mobile’s retail and customer experience capabilities.

NewNet to Acquire Nokia Siemens Networks' WiMAX Business

NewNet Communication Technologies, a Skyview Capital portfolio company, announced plans to acquire the WiMAX business from Nokia Siemens Networks, including the full product portfolio, related employees and assets, and active customer and supplier contracts. Approximately 300 Nokia Siemens Networks employees (many in suburban Chicago, USA and Hangzhou, China) are expected to transfer; the deal was expected to close before December 31, 2011 and terms were not disclosed.
