EQT Partners (EQT IX) Acquires Chr. Hansen's Natural Colors Division

EQT Partners' EQT IX fund agreed to acquire the Natural Colors division of Chr. Hansen for EUR 800 million; the deal closed in March 2021 following customary approvals. The business, headquartered in Hørsholm, Denmark, employs ~650 people, serves over 1,600 food-and-beverage customers, and will be developed by EQT as a standalone platform for organic growth and acquisitive expansion in natural food colorants.

The Heubach Group and SK Capital Partners completed the acquisition of Clariant's Global Colorants Business (Clariant Pigments), combining the two businesses to operate under the Heubach brand and form a global pigment technology leader. The combined Heubach Group will operate from nineteen manufacturing facilities, establish its headquarters in Vienna, Austria, and employ approximately 3,000 people; Stefan Doboczky was named CEO effective January 10, 2022.

On January 29, 2024 Novozymes and Chr. Hansen completed a statutory merger to create Novonesis, a global biosolutions company focused on enzymes, cultures and microbial solutions. The combined group will employ around 10,000 people worldwide and have pro forma annual revenue of approximately EUR 3.7 billion, with targeted synergies across food & health and planetary health portfolios.

Chroma Color Corporation Acquires Epolin Chemicals

Chroma Color Corporation, a portfolio company of Arsenal Capital Partners, has acquired Epolin Chemicals LLC, a developer and manufacturer of near-infrared (NIR) absorbing dyes and thermoplastic compounds. The acquisition expands Chroma Color’s product portfolio and technical capabilities in NIR dye technology while Epolin will operate as an independent subsidiary to enable cross-selling and continued investment in R&D.

Recover Nordic is a Nordic market leader in property remediation and environmental services, headquartered in Oslo with over 90 branches and more than 2,100 employees; EQT said it will support the company’s digitalization, professionalization and continued M&A-led growth.

Kerry Group to Acquire Lactase Enzyme Business from Chr. Hansen and Novozymes

Kerry Group PLC has agreed to acquire part of the global lactase enzyme business carved out from Chr. Hansen Holding A/S and Novozymes A/S for a total consideration of €150 million (subject to closing adjustments). The deal includes certain trade and assets of Chr. Hansen's global lactase business and 100% of Nuocheng Trillion Food (Tianjin) Co., Ltd.; the lactase business generated about €40 million in revenue in 2022 and the transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2024 subject to European Commission approval.
