Givaudan Acquires Custom Essence

Givaudan has reached an agreement to acquire Custom Essence, a family-owned fragrance creation house based in Somerset, New Jersey. The acquisition expands Givaudan's natural-fragrance capabilities and local/regional customer reach as part of its 2025 fragrance strategy; Custom Essence employs roughly 70 people and would have represented about USD 40 million of incremental sales on a 2020 proforma basis.

EQT Partners (EQT IX) Acquires Chr. Hansen's Natural Colors Division

EQT Partners' EQT IX fund agreed to acquire the Natural Colors division of Chr. Hansen for EUR 800 million; the deal closed in March 2021 following customary approvals. The business, headquartered in Hørsholm, Denmark, employs ~650 people, serves over 1,600 food-and-beverage customers, and will be developed by EQT as a standalone platform for organic growth and acquisitive expansion in natural food colorants.

Givaudan Acquires Ungerer & Company

Givaudan has completed the acquisition of Ungerer & Company, a US-based flavour, fragrance and specialty ingredients business headquartered in New Jersey. The purchase (terms undisclosed) adds Ungerer's approximately USD 250 million in proforma sales and ~650 employees, strengthening Givaudan’s vertical integration in specialty ingredients and its local/regional presence in North America.

Heubach Group and SK Capital Partners Acquire Clariant's Global Colorants Business

The Heubach Group and SK Capital Partners completed the acquisition of Clariant's Global Colorants Business (Clariant Pigments), combining the two businesses to operate under the Heubach brand and form a global pigment technology leader. The combined Heubach Group will operate from nineteen manufacturing facilities, establish its headquarters in Vienna, Austria, and employ approximately 3,000 people; Stefan Doboczky was named CEO effective January 10, 2022.

Authority Brands Acquires Color World Housepainting

Authority Brands, a Columbia, Maryland-based home-services franchising platform, has acquired Color World Housepainting, a Powell, Ohio-founded painting franchise with 20 franchise locations. The deal expands Authority Brands' portfolio of residential and commercial home-service brands; financial terms were not disclosed and Boxwood Partners acted as financial advisor to Color World.

CD&R Acquires Multi-Color Corporation and Fort Dearborn to Create Global Label Solutions Leader

Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R) agreed to acquire Multi-Color Corporation (MCC) from Platinum Equity and Fort Dearborn Company from Advent International and combine the two businesses into a single global label solutions platform. The combined company will serve consumer packaged goods customers across Food & Beverage, Home & Personal Care, Wine & Spirits and other specialty end markets, creating roughly $3 billion in annual revenue and expanded global scale.
