Sun Life Financial and Wilton Re entered into a definitive agreement to form Windsor Life Re, a U.S. and Bermuda-domiciled affiliated reinsurer. The new vehicle will be managed by Wilton Re and has SLC Management as lead asset manager, with Sun Life and Wilton Re each committing about one-third of the equity to deploy up to US$900 million of capital.

Aquarian Holdings Acquires Controlling Interest in Somerset Reinsurance Ltd.

Aquarian Holdings has closed the acquisition of a controlling interest in Bermuda-domiciled Somerset Reinsurance Ltd., a reinsurer focused on the U.S. life insurance and annuity market. Aquarian will provide substantial immediate and committed capital and, through Aquarian Investments, serve as asset manager to support Somerset Re's growth while existing investors Hannover Re and Weiss Family Interests retain ownership stakes and remain involved.

Reinsurance Group of America Acquires Hodge Life Assurance Company Limited

Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated (RGA) has agreed to acquire 100% of the share capital of Hodge Life Assurance Company Limited (HLAC) from Hodge Limited. HLAC, a PRA-authorised UK life insurer with approximately £570 million of annuity liabilities, will cease writing new business effective February 19, 2021; the deal is subject to regulatory approval.

McLarens Acquires Lloyd Warwick International

McLarens, a global independent insurance services provider based in Atlanta, has acquired Lloyd Warwick International (LWI), a City of London–headquartered specialist loss adjusting and claims management firm. The deal—under which LWI will merge with McLarens' Natural Resources specialty services while retaining its London head office—strengthens McLarens' technical capabilities and market presence in energy, marine, mining and renewables claims; LWI was jointly owned by its employees and Crawford & Company prior to the transaction.
