Ryder Acquires Logistics Technology Start-Up Baton

Ryder System, Inc. has acquired San Francisco-based logistics technology start-up Baton, integrating Baton's team and proprietary transportation-optimization platform into Ryder. The acquisition (closed August 31) follows an earlier investment by RyderVentures and brings Baton's founders and core engineering team into Ryder to accelerate customer-facing supply chain and transportation technology development.

Ryder System, Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Whiplash, a City of Industry, California-based omnichannel e-commerce fulfillment and logistics provider, for approximately $480 million in cash. The acquisition expands Ryder's e-commerce and omnichannel fulfillment network (adding 19 warehouses and ~7 million square feet), is expected to be accretive, and aims to integrate Whiplash's technology, operations, and team to accelerate capability and geographic coverage.

Ryder System, Inc. has acquired all outstanding equity of Midwest Warehouse & Distribution System, a Woodridge, Illinois–based 3PL that operates 17 multi-client and dedicated warehouses totaling about seven million square feet and a company-owned truck fleet. The acquisition, completed Nov. 1, 2021, expands Ryder's multi-client warehousing capability in the Chicago distribution hub and is expected to add roughly $135 million of annual revenue in 2022.
