Fundamental Advisors launched a helicopter investment strategy and acquired HeloAir, Inc., a Richmond, Virginia-based regional operator of utility and fire-suppression helicopters. HeloAir founder Whit Baldwin will remain with a retained stake and the deal establishes a platform for Fundamental to expand capabilities and pursue complementary acquisitions in aerial public-safety and infrastructure monitoring services.

TransMedics Acquires Summit Aviation to Expand Transplant Aviation Capabilities

TransMedics Group, Inc. has signed a definitive agreement (and subsequently completed) to acquire Summit Aviation, a U.S. charter flight operator, to establish TransMedics Aviation and provide dedicated air logistics for organ transplantation. The acquisition brings Summit's charter expertise and team (founder Ben Walton to join TransMedics as VP of Aviation Services) to support TransMedics' National OCS Program and expand its organ transport capabilities nationwide.

TransDigm Acquires DART Aerospace for Approximately $360M

TransDigm Group Incorporated agreed to acquire DART Aerospace, a Montreal-based manufacturer of helicopter mission equipment, from Greenbriar Equity Group and First Aviation Services for approximately $360 million in cash. DART, which generates roughly $100 million in pro forma 2022 revenue and employs about 400 people across facilities in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, was acquired to expand TransDigm's proprietary product and aftermarket capabilities; the deal is expected to close in Q2 2022 subject to customary approvals.

Robinson Helicopter Company Acquires Ascent AeroSystems

Robinson Helicopter Company has acquired Ascent AeroSystems, a Wilmington, Massachusetts-based maker of coaxial uncrewed aerial systems (UAS). The deal brings Ascent's all-weather, modular drone platforms and payload ecosystem into Robinson's manufacturing footprint in Torrance, California to support expanded capability offerings for law enforcement, public safety, industrial and defense customers.

SK AeroSafety Group (LLCP Portfolio Company) Acquires Fire-Tec Aero Systems

SK AeroSafety Group, a portfolio company of Levine Leichtman Capital Partners, has acquired Fire-Tec Aero Systems LLC, a Phoenix-based MRO specialist in aircraft fire extinguishers, oxygen bottles and emergency power equipment that serves over 350 customers. The deal expands SK's specialist fire safety capabilities and accelerates its growth and presence in the U.S. market; Fire-Tec's management will remain in place.

Tricoastal Ventures Acquires Central Flying Service

Tricoastal Ventures, a capital investment firm focused on commercial aviation, acquired 100% of Central Flying Service from the Holbert family. The Little Rock-based general aviation services provider will be led by Phil Jordan (CEO) and Herb Knight (COO) under Tricoastal ownership and will pursue expansion of locations, adjacent markets and maintenance work for sister brands.
