Hillcore Group Acquires Thompson Construction Group

Hillcore Group has completed the acquisition of Thompson Construction Group. Thompson, a Spruce Grove, Alberta–based heavy civil contractor with over 1,500 employees and a large equipment fleet, will partner with Hillcore and its senior management to expand service capacity, pursue capital expenditure and acquisition opportunities, and support geographic growth across Western Canada.

Hillcore Group has completed the acquisition of MTE Logistix, one of Western Canada’s largest third-party logistics (3PL) providers. MTE operates more than 3.5 million sq. ft. of warehouse space across Edmonton and Calgary and serves 150+ clients across food & beverage, building materials, healthcare and industrial end markets; Hillcore said the deal is part of a plan to build a national logistics platform and expand MTE's footprint by ~1.5 million sq. ft.

Aecon Utilities Group Inc., a subsidiary of Aecon Group Inc., has acquired a majority interest in Xtreme Powerline Construction for a base purchase price of approximately US$73 million. The acquisition expands Aecon Utilities' U.S. electrical distribution capabilities and footprint — Xtreme, founded in 2007 and headquartered in Port Huron, Michigan, has ~300 employees and long-standing relationships with utility clients including DTE Energy.
