Highlander Partners Acquires Tapatío Hot Sauce from Saavedra Family

Highlander Partners has acquired Tapatío, the No. 5 hot sauce brand in the U.S., from the Saavedra family with The Arnold Companies investing as a significant minority partner; the Saavedra family will retain a minority stake. J.P. Morgan led senior financing and NMP Capital provided financing and equity support. Highlander plans to use Tapatío as a platform for geographic expansion, deeper retail and foodservice penetration, and new product innovation.

C.H. Guenther & Son Acquires Fresca Mexican Foods

San Antonio-headquartered C.H. Guenther & Son (CHG), a Pritzker Private Capital-backed food manufacturer, has acquired Fresca Mexican Foods, a Caldwell, Idaho-based producer of flour and corn tortillas and tortilla chips. The acquisition expands CHG's tortilla manufacturing capacity, adds Fresca's 190,000 sq. ft. facility and ~375 employees, and deepens CHG's relationships with QSR, foodservice and private-label customers.

Advent International Acquires Sauer Brands from Falfurrias Capital Partners

Advent International has completed its acquisition of Sauer Brands Inc., a portfolio of condiments and seasonings brands including Duke's Mayo, Kernel Season's and Mateo's Gourmet Salsa, from Falfurrias Capital Partners. As part of the close, E. Yuri Hermida was appointed CEO and the deal positions Advent to support Sauer Brands' next phase of growth across retail and away-from-home channels.

Sabrosura Foods, a Bloomington, Minnesota-based marketer of Hispanic food brands and a portfolio company of Centre Partners, has acquired Pancho's Mexican Foods, the Memphis-origin refrigerated queso dip brand founded in 1956. The add-on expands Sabrosura's snacking and Hispanic cheese portfolio and aims to broaden Pancho's nationwide distribution across mass, club and grocery channels; terms were not disclosed.

Falfurrias Capital Partners Acquires The C.F. Sauer Company Food Business (Sauer Brands)

Charlotte-based private equity firm Falfurrias Capital Partners signed a definitive agreement to acquire the food business of Richmond-based The C.F. Sauer Company. The sale transfers the company's branded and private-label food operations (including Duke's Mayonnaise and The Spice Hunter) to the buyer — the retained real estate portfolio remains with the shareholders — and the business will be known as Sauer Brands Inc. upon closing.
