Electrical Services Acquisitions in North Carolina

Amped Electric, a portfolio company of Evolution Strategy Partners, has acquired LEED Electric, Inc. The owners, Theresa and John Gilmer, sold the business as part of their retirement plan; John Gilmer will remain to support a smooth transition while LEED leverages Amped's resources to continue serving customers and grow.

The Cook & Boardman Group LLC has acquired Intellicom, Inc., a Durham, North Carolina-based technology infrastructure firm that specializes in design, installation and maintenance of audio visual/collaboration, security, DAS and structured cabling systems. The deal (terms undisclosed) expands Cook & Boardman’s capabilities and regional presence in the Carolinas and Virginia and is the firm’s tenth acquisition since Platinum Equity acquired a majority stake in 2023.

Alpine Power Systems has acquired selected assets of DC Power Systems, Inc., a long‑standing provider of critical power products and services in the Southeast U.S. The deal expands Alpine's critical power capabilities and strengthens its presence in the Southeast.

Lumin8 Transportation Technologies, a portfolio company of Crest Rock Partners, has acquired the Traffic Signal division of Watson Electrical Construction Co. LLC in an asset divestiture. The deal — executed as an add-on to Lumin8's platform — expands Lumin8's ITS and traffic-signal capabilities and more than doubles its presence in North Carolina, creating a combined organization of over 450 employees serving government agencies and contractors.

SuperHero Fire Protection, a portfolio company of Hidden Harbor Capital Partners, has merged with KNC Technologies to expand its fire, life & safety and low-voltage service offerings in the southeastern United States. The transaction strengthens SuperHero's footprint in the region and brings KNC's experience in education and healthcare markets into the SuperHero platform as an add-on acquisition.

Rotunda Capital Partners has invested in Canter Power Systems, a Greensboro-based residential generator installer, creating a new platform investment and positioning the company for geographic expansion, new product categories (including battery/solar), and add-on acquisitions. Founder Ken Canter will remain as a special advisor while third-generation family leader Brian Lopatka will serve as CEO.

Corbett Technology Solutions, Inc. (CTSI), a Wind Point Partners portfolio company, has acquired Systems Electronics, Inc., a Knightdale, North Carolina-based communications, safety, and security systems integrator. The add-on expands CTSI’s healthcare critical communications, fire and security capabilities and strengthens its North Carolina and southern Virginia footprint.

Integrated Fire & Security Solutions (IFSS), together with Diversified Systems' existing management, acquired Diversified Systems, Inc., a Knightdale, North Carolina-based security systems integrator; the transaction closed on September 30, 2021. The deal was structured by Newlook Capital, which previously made a significant investment in IFSS, and aims to expand IFSS's geographic footprint and service offering in the Carolinas and Virginia.

Janus International Group, Inc. acquired Access Control Technologies, LLC (ACT), a provider of self-storage access control and low-voltage installation and integration services. The acquisition brings ACT's installation and field-service capabilities into Janus/Nokē to support growth of the Nokē Smart Entry system and expand Janus' access control services to self-storage and commercial customers.

Corbett Technology Solutions, Inc. (CTSI), a portfolio company of Wind Point Partners, has acquired Collaborative Technology Solutions, LLC (CTS), a provider of audiovisual, security and other engineered low-voltage solutions. The add-on expands CTSI's footprint into the North Carolina Research Triangle and Charlotte markets and enhances its capabilities in AV, security, and structured cabling services.

Unified Power, a national critical power services platform based in Terrell, Texas, has acquired Power BackUPS of Graham, North Carolina as the company's fourteenth strategic addition. The acquisition expands Unified Power's capabilities and presence in the eastern United States and brings the consolidated group's headcount to over 250 employees across the U.S.

Comfort Systems USA, Inc. (NYSE: FIX) has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Starr Electric Company, Inc., a Greensboro, North Carolina-headquartered electrical contractor. Starr — which has offices across North Carolina and in Columbia, South Carolina — is expected to contribute approximately $90–$100 million of annualized revenue and will expand Comfort Systems' modular/off-site construction and electrical capabilities.

An investor group led by Valley Ridge Investment Partners, with capital and subordinated debt provided by Tecum Capital Partners and C3 Capital Partners, recapitalized National Power Corporation. Founder and CEO Eddie Youngblood remains with a minority stake; the financing will support hiring, service and product expansion, ERP upgrades and inorganic growth initiatives.
