Engineering Services Acquisitions in Massachusetts

WSB LLC, a portfolio company of GHK Capital Partners, has acquired NEO Virtus Engineering, a Littleton, Massachusetts–based engineering consulting firm specializing in photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage system design. The add-on expands WSB's power/energy capabilities and geographic reach as part of its national energy practice build-out.

The add-on strengthens WSB’s power and energy practice by adding PV, energy storage, and power system engineering capabilities and expands geographic reach; WSB will integrate NEO Virtus and operate under the WSB brand in early 2026.

Cumming Group has joined with LeftField, a New England owner's project management consultancy led by Jim Rogers, expanding Cumming's presence and capabilities across the Northeast. The deal brings LeftField’s 60+ professionals into Cumming’s platform, strengthening its K–12, higher education, life sciences and municipal project management capabilities in New England.

BTG Positioning Systems has acquired US-based GPR, Inc., gaining exclusive access to GPR's patented ground-penetrating radar positioning technology to strengthen BTG's port automation product suite. The acquisition accelerates development of a new Ground Sensing Localisation (GSL) solution (target launch 2026) enabling highly accurate, GPS-independent positioning for cranes, autonomous vehicles and other port equipment.

NMS Capital has partnered with CSL Consulting's management in a recapitalization to support the company's next phase of growth. The investment will provide capital for organic expansion and acquisitions to scale CSL's Owner's Representative, project management and construction mitigation services.

GPRS, a Maumee, Ohio-based provider of subsurface utility locating and reality-capture services (and a CIVC portfolio company), has acquired Existing Conditions, a Boston-based 3D laser scanning and reality-capture firm. The deal, which closed on August 1, expands GPRS' nationwide reality-capture and as-built documentation capabilities and geographic reach while retaining Existing Conditions' team and leadership.

SOCOTEC AE Consulting, LLC (SOCOTEC USA), a leading provider of testing, inspection, certification and engineering consulting services, has acquired Russo Barr Associates, a Boston-based engineering consulting firm specializing in building envelope repair, restoration and waterproofing. The acquisition strengthens SOCOTEC's presence in New England and adds Russo Barr's building envelope and restoration capabilities to SOCOTEC's architectural and building engineering practices.

Summit Fire & Security, a subsidiary of SFP Holding, Inc. (Summit Companies), completed the acquisition of New England Fire Systems effective November 1, 2022. The purchase brings New England Fire Systems' team and regional footprint (Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire) into Summit’s national network and expands Summit’s fire protection and life-safety services in the Northeast.

Global Infrastructure Solutions Inc. (GISI) announced a merger with GEI Consultants, Inc., bringing GEI into the GISI family while allowing GEI to retain its brand and extend employee ownership. The transaction expands GISI’s Global Engineering and Consulting Platform and strengthens GEI’s capacity and footprint across North America.

Rimkus Consulting Group, Inc. acquired Commercial Construction Consulting, Inc. (C3) to expand its Building Sciences practice and strengthen its Boston presence. The acquisition adds C3’s expertise in real estate development advisory, MEP engineering, vertical transportation, energy and sustainability services to Rimkus’ global engineering and technical consulting platform.

Trinity Consultants has acquired Aztec Technologies in the United States and Aztec Process Automation Pvt. Ltd. in India. The acquisition expands Trinity's engineering and industrial automation capabilities for life sciences clients, integrating Aztec's automation, data analytics, panel design and fabrication expertise with Trinity's life-science engineering solutions.

TRC Companies has acquired ESS Group, a Northeast-based environmental and coastal engineering firm, to strengthen TRC's power & renewable energy and coastal engineering capabilities. The acquisition brings ESS's expertise in coastal resiliency, flood hazard vulnerability studies, water resources, and offshore wind support into TRC's broader environmental and engineering platform.

Chicago-based private equity firm Wind Point Partners has acquired The Vertex Companies, a national multidisciplinary forensic engineering and construction consulting firm headquartered in Weymouth, Massachusetts. Wind Point will partner with Vertex's founding management team to support organic growth and pursue strategic acquisitions to expand the company's service capabilities and geographic footprint.

Apex Companies, LLC has acquired Environmental Partners, a Quincy, Massachusetts-based multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm with more than 80 professionals. The acquisition expands Apex's water, environmental, transportation, civil engineering, and asset management capabilities in New England and will have EP operate as "Environmental Partners, an Apex Company."

Cumming Group, a portfolio company of Tailwind Capital, has acquired Fort Point Project Management, a Boston-based project management firm founded in 2000. The add-on expands Cumming’s Northeast presence and strengthens its life sciences, healthcare and office project capabilities; it is Cumming’s ninth add-on since Tailwind acquired the company in 2016.
