HVAC & Mechanical Acquisitions in Massachusetts

Smiths Group plc has acquired Duc-Pac Corporation, a U.S.-based metal duct manufacturer for HVAC applications, for $40.5 million. The business will be integrated into the construction segment of Smiths' Flex-Tek unit to expand Smiths' geographic coverage in the northeast United States and enable cross-selling opportunities.

The RISE Group, an employee‑owned provider of energy, engineering, laboratory, and field services, has acquired DG Service Company, a 28‑person HVAC and refrigeration contractor based in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. DG Service will continue to be led by co‑founder Grace Knox and operate under The RISE Group’s Built Environment division, with all current employees remaining on staff.

AAF International (American Air Filter Co., Inc.), a global leader in air filtration and a subsidiary of Daikin Industries, acquired Northeast Air Solutions, a New England provider of clean air and HVAC solutions founded in 1946. The acquisition, effective March 18, 2024, expands AAF's branch network and access to filtration technology and technical expertise in New England.

Northwinds Services Group has acquired All-Temp Systems Mechanical, Inc., a Milford, Massachusetts HVAC company founded in 1982. The deal is an add-on to Northwinds' HVAC and plumbing platform (PE-backed by TruArc Partners) and expands Northwinds' service footprint in eastern Massachusetts and the New England region.

Kelvin Group, in partnership with private equity sponsor Southfield Capital, has acquired Cooling & Heating Specialists, Inc. (CHS), a regional commercial HVAC services provider headquartered in Newton, Massachusetts. CHS will be integrated into Kelvin's ARC Mechanical platform to expand commercial and industrial HVAC installation and service capabilities across New England; Deerpath Capital Management provided debt financing.

Northwinds Services Group announced the acquisition of LePrevost Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, a family-owned plumbing and HVAC services business serving Berkshire County, Massachusetts. Northwinds said it will retain local leadership while providing support for growth across sales, marketing, operations, finance, accounting and IT as part of its HVAC and plumbing platform expansion.

Taconic Capital Holdings, a private investment firm based in Boca Raton, Florida, acquired Excel Mechanical, Inc., an HVAC and plumbing contractor headquartered in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. The transaction closed on July 14, 2023 and was advised by Generational Equity.

Tech24, backed by HCI Equity Partners, acquired Harris Warren Commercial Kitchen Service on June 20, 2023 as its seventeenth add-on acquisition. The purchase expands Tech24's technician base and service coverage in the Cape Cod / greater Boston market, adding commercial kitchen repair, preventative maintenance and installation capabilities.

RISE Group, an employee‑owned provider of energy, engineering, laboratory, and field services, has acquired Air Masters HVAC of NE, a 23‑person commercial HVAC and building automation firm based in Fall River, Massachusetts. The Medeiros family will remain with the business, which will operate under RISE Group's Built Environment activities to expand the company's mechanical/HVAC contracting capability in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Sila Services, a home services platform, has acquired Central Cooling & Heating, Inc., a Woburn, Massachusetts-based HVAC provider founded in 1966 that serves the Greater Boston area. The acquisition is an add-on to Sila's platform as it expands its New England footprint and intends to retain and invest in Central's team while continuing to serve residential and commercial customers across the region.

Crete Mechanical Group, a national provider of commercial HVAC, electrical, plumbing and building automation services, acquired Reilly Electrical Contractors Inc., a family-owned full-service electrical and telecommunications contractor based in South Easton, Massachusetts. The transaction closed on September 1, 2022 and will integrate Reilly into Crete’s national partner network while preserving local management and service continuity.

Sila Services, a PE-backed home services platform, has acquired Boston Standard Company (Mattapan, MA) and New England Ductless (Milton, MA). The add-on deals expand Sila’s HVAC, plumbing and ductless heat pump capabilities across the Boston and broader New England market.

Building Controls & Solutions (BCS) has acquired Interstate HVAC Controls, a Brighton, MA-based provider of building automation systems and components. The acquisition expands BCS's technical capabilities and establishes a New England presence to provide broader coverage and deeper service to commercial building customers across the United States.

American Refrigeration Company (ARC), a Southfield Capital-backed HVAC and refrigeration platform, has acquired Global Mechanical, a Newburyport, Massachusetts-based regional provider of commercial refrigeration and HVAC design, installation, and service. The deal expands ARC’s commercial refrigeration and HVAC capabilities across New England; Deerpath Capital Management provided debt financing.

American Refrigeration Company (ARC), backed by Southfield Capital, has acquired Capitol Engineering, a regional designer, installer and service provider of commercial/industrial HVAC systems in New England. The add-on expands ARC's HVAC engineering, installation and maintenance capabilities across the region and integrates Capitol's leadership and technical depth into ARC's platform.

Flint Group, a national network of residential home service businesses, has acquired Cranney Home Services, a nearly 40-year-old plumbing, HVAC, sewer and electrical services provider in the greater Boston area. The deal expands Flint Group's footprint onto the U.S. East Coast and adds a multi-trade residential service operator to its platform.

Emerson has completed the acquisition of 7AC Technologies, a Beverly, Massachusetts-based startup that develops liquid desiccant air-conditioning technology. The deal expands Emerson's commercial and residential HVAC capabilities by adding 7AC's energy-efficient humidity and air-management solutions.
