Acquisitions in North Carolina in 2013

Summit Partners has made a significant minority equity investment in Systems Maintenance Services, Inc. (SMS), joining existing majority shareholder Thomas H. Lee Partners. The investment will support SMS's organic and strategic growth—expanding its multivendor IT asset lifecycle, datacenter and managed services globally—and Summit Partners representatives will join the SMS board.

Champion Solutions Group, a Boca Raton–based IT services and cloud solutions provider, has acquired MessageOps, a Charlotte-based provider of Microsoft Office 365 migration tools and cloud management utilities. The acquisition (100% of MessageOps equity) will combine MessageOps' product capabilities with Champion's delivery and consulting services to expand cloud management offerings; financial terms were not disclosed.

Boathouse Capital provided a debt and equity recapitalization to IMPLAN Group, enabling a management-led leveraged buyout and the company's acquisition of MIG, Inc. The investment will fund IMPLAN Group's deployment of new SaaS and Business Intelligence products, hiring initiatives, and future growth.

General Data Company, Inc. (through its General Data Healthcare division) has acquired Triangle Biomedical Sciences, Inc., a Durham-based maker of histology instrumentation, reagents and consumables. The acquisition expands General Data Healthcare's product portfolio to offer a comprehensive set of equipment, supplies and tracking solutions to histology and pathology laboratories; financial terms were not disclosed.

3D Systems completed the acquisition of Geomagic, Inc. for $55 million in cash. The purchase adds Geomagic's 3D sculpting, modeling, scanning and inspection software to 3D Systems' portfolio, is expected to contribute about $17 million of revenue in 2013 and strengthens 3D Systems' 3D authoring platform and reseller coverage.

Garland Industries, Inc. has acquired DryDog Barriers, LLC, a Charlotte-based manufacturer of below-grade waterproofing products and accessories. DryDog’s product line will be integrated into GMX, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Garland, to expand Garland/GMX’s waterproofing capabilities and pursue additional residential and commercial waterproofing opportunities.
