Curve Digital (Catalis Group) Acquires IronOak Games

Curve Digital, part of the Catalis Group, has acquired Vancouver-based independent game developer IronOak Games to strengthen the group's North American presence and expand its For The King IP. The transaction was supported/financed by Catalis Group's backers (NorthEdge and Vespa Capital) and funded via a committed acquisition facility established after Catalis Group's £90m backing in October 2019.

Microsoft to Acquire ZeniMax Media (Bethesda Softworks)

Microsoft announced plans to acquire ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, for $7.5 billion in cash. The deal brings an extensive portfolio of game franchises and multiple development studios (over 2,300 employees across the group) into Microsoft’s Xbox business and will add Bethesda’s future games to Xbox Game Pass.

Atari Acquires Night Dive Studios

Atari entered into an agreement to acquire 100% of Night Dive Studios Inc., a Vancouver, Washington-based game development and publishing studio, for an initial consideration of US$10 million (half cash, half Atari shares) plus an earn-out of up to US$10 million. Atari also announced plans to issue €30 million in convertible bonds to support the acquisition, refinance debt and fund growth initiatives, while Irata LLC agreed to provide bridge financing for the initial consideration.

Behaviour Interactive Acquires Midwinter Entertainment

Montreal-based Behaviour Interactive is acquiring Seattle-based Midwinter Entertainment from Improbable. A team of about 30 from Midwinter will join Behaviour on June 2, 2022 as the studio’s talent and capabilities are folded into Behaviour’s development slate to support new original IPs.

Supernova Capital Acquires Mi-Clos Studio and Little Red Dog Games

London-based private equity firm Supernova Capital has acquired 100% of French developer Mi-Clos Studio and New York-based Little Red Dog Games. The deals — terms undisclosed — expand Supernova's gaming portfolio and give it ownership of established IP including "Out There" and "Rogue State."

Facebook / Oculus Studios Acquires Sanzaru Games

Facebook’s Oculus Studios has acquired Sanzaru Games, a veteran VR game developer. The studio will join Oculus Studios while operating independently out of its existing U.S. (and Canadian) offices, with the majority of Sanzaru’s staff moving to Facebook to continue building VR game content.
