Airbus Takes Over Bombardier’s C Series (A220) Program

January 26, 2026

Airbus acquired control of Bombardier’s C Series jet program (rebranded A220) in 2018, taking majority ownership of the program and integrating production into its Airbus Canada operations in Mirabel. The deal left the Quebec government as a minority partner (later increasing its stake) while Bombardier relinquished ownership; Airbus views the A220 as a strategic capability to broaden its product offering and improve manufacturing scale.
