Astorg has signed a definitive agreement to acquire FUJIFILM Irvine Scientific's Medical Media Business (Irvine Scientific MBU) from FUJIFILM Irvine Scientific, adding culture and vitrification media products to its recently combined assisted reproductive technology (ART) platform created from Hamilton Thorne and Cook Medical's Reproductive Health business. The deal is an add-on designed to create a global ART MedTech leader by expanding product capabilities for fertility clinics and IVF laboratories; financial terms were not disclosed.

BioIVT Acquires Valley Biomedical Products & Services

BioIVT, a provider of research models and value-added research services, has acquired Valley Biomedical Products & Services, an FDA-registered manufacturer of in vitro diagnostics, sera, plasma and reagents based in Winchester, Virginia. The acquisition will expand BioIVT’s capabilities in IVD manufacturing and cell & gene therapy support by combining Valley Biomedical’s reagent and blood-product manufacturing with BioIVT’s donor centers and specimen services; BioIVT will continue operating the Winchester facility and retain its staff.

3i-backed Bioprocessing Platform Acquires Sani-Tech West, Inc.

3i Group's single-use bioprocessing platform has acquired Sani-Tech West, Inc., a Camarillo, California-based manufacturer and distributor of single-use bioprocessing systems and components. The deal adds Sani-Tech's ~170 employees, cleanroom manufacturing footprint and product lines (bottles, caps, tubing, fittings and assemblies) to 3i's existing platform (including Cellon, Silicone Altimex and TBL), enhancing global manufacturing capacity, supply-chain assurance and product breadth for biopharma customers.

Asahi Kasei Medical Acquires Bionova Scientific

Asahi Kasei Medical agreed to wholly acquire Bionova Scientific, a Fremont, California-based biopharmaceutical CDMO that provides process development and GMP-compliant manufacturing services for next-generation antibody drugs. The acquisition, executed through a U.S. subsidiary, expands Asahi Kasei Medical's bioprocess and CDMO capabilities to better serve biologics developers and accelerate growth of its bioprocess business; closing is subject to regulatory clearances.

Charles River Laboratories Acquires Vigene Biosciences

Charles River Laboratories agreed to acquire Vigene Biosciences, a Rockville, Maryland-based gene therapy CDMO, for $292.5 million in cash plus up to $57.5 million in contingent payments. The acquisition expands Charles River's cell and gene therapy contract development and manufacturing capabilities—adding CGMP viral vector and plasmid DNA production—and is expected to close in early Q3 2021.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Acquires Brammer Bio for $1.7 Billion

The deal expands Thermo Fisher’s pharma services and viral vector manufacturing capabilities to support high-growth gene and cell therapy markets and brings a team of nearly 600 employees into its pharma services business.
