Energy Acquisitions in Oregon

TRC Companies, a global professional services firm focused on the energy transition, has acquired Strategic Energy Group (SEG), a North American leader in strategic energy management. The acquisition expands TRC’s energy-efficiency and strategic energy management capabilities across utilities, commercial, and industrial customers.

Carbon DC has acquired Elywhere North America, the Portland-based North American arm of Norwegian EV charging innovator Elywhere AS, to accelerate deployment of DC-based grid and battery-assisted fast-charging solutions across North America. The deal brings Elywhere’s rapid-deployment, battery-backed ES Series charging technology and operational experience to Carbon DC’s CarbonCore hardware and CarbonMind energy-optimization software, enabling faster, lower-cost EV charging installations for multi-unit residential and commercial properties.

Maritime Partners, LLC has acquired e1 Marine LLC, a developer of methanol-to-hydrogen generation technology for marine fuel-cell applications. The purchase lets Maritime Partners integrate e1 Marine's onboard hydrogen generation capability into its vessel solutions (including the M/V Hydrogen One project) to accelerate decarbonization and cleaner propulsion in the maritime sector.

Resource Innovations, a San Francisco–based tech-enabled services firm focused on energy efficiency and sustainability, has acquired Portland-based clean energy consulting firm Cadeo. The acquisition brings Cadeo’s market transformation, emerging technology and distributed energy expertise into Resource Innovations to expand capability and footprint across the U.S.

NuScale Power completed a business combination with Spring Valley Acquisition Corp., becoming a publicly traded company (NYSE: SMR) and receiving approximately $380 million in gross proceeds, including $235 million from PIPE investors. The transaction provides capital to accelerate commercialization of NuScale’s small modular reactor (SMR) technology and includes participation from strategic and financial investors such as DS Private Equity, Nucor, SailingStone Capital Partners, Samsung C&T, Segra Capital Management and Pearl Energy Investment Management.

BP Energy Partners (BPEP) has signed an equity investment agreement with Onboard Dynamics to provide growth capital to scale the company’s products and service offerings, including its GoVAC Flex pipeline evacuation system. Onboard Dynamics, headquartered in Bend, Oregon, manufactures and leases mobile compression and evacuation equipment for utilities, local distribution companies, and pipeline operators; the transaction was expected to close in October 2021.

TransTech Energy, a portfolio company of Bridge Industries, through a newly formed subsidiary ENERGYneering Solutions, LLC, acquired a majority ownership stake in ENERGYneering Solutions, Inc., a biogas engineering and services provider based in Sisters, Oregon. The add-on expands TransTech’s biogas engineering, construction, operations and maintenance capabilities and strengthens its West Coast presence while ENERGYneering’s president Benny Benson will retain an ownership stake and remain as president.

Powin Energy Corporation, a Tualatin, Oregon-based designer and manufacturer of grid-scale battery energy storage systems, has sold a controlling interest to private equity firms Trilantic North America and Energy Impact Partners (EIP). The investment will provide significant equity capital to accelerate Powin's growth, improve its bankability and support scaling of its software and hardware energy storage platform.

Opinion Dynamics, a Waltham, Massachusetts-based energy evaluation and market research firm, has acquired Research Into Action, a Portland-based energy evaluation and market insights company. The acquisition brings Research Into Action's energy research professionals into Opinion Dynamics to expand capabilities and further grow the firm's core services across the U.S.
