Engineering Services Acquisitions in Oregon

Global consulting firm J.S. Held has acquired GLI Advisors, a West Coast and Hawaii-based construction project and program management consultancy. The deal expands J.S. Held's construction advisory and project support capabilities and strengthens its presence on the U.S. West Coast.

AKS Engineering & Forestry has merged with Lancaster Mobley, adding the Portland-based transportation engineering and planning firm to AKS's multidisciplinary practice. The transaction expands AKS's service offering to include traffic engineering and transportation planning, and brings a new Portland office and Lancaster Mobley's staff into AKS's regional platform.

AtkinsRéalis Group Inc. has completed the acquisition of a 70% stake in David Evans Enterprises, Inc., the parent company of David Evans and Associates, Inc., forming a growth platform for the Western U.S. The deal expands AtkinsRéalis' presence in Western U.S. transportation, water and power & renewables markets while combining global capabilities with David Evans' local engineering and staff-augmentation expertise headquartered in Portland, Oregon.

Align Capital Partners completed a recapitalization of AKS Engineering, a multidisciplinary civil engineering, surveying and design firm based in Tualatin, Oregon. AKS has 350+ employees across seven locations in Oregon and Washington; management and employees retain a significant stake and will continue to lead the company as ACP supports continued organic growth and add-on acquisitions in the Pacific Northwest.

Verdantas, a PE-backed engineering and environmental consulting firm, has acquired Civil West Engineering Services, Inc., a Coos Bay, Oregon-based municipal engineering firm. The bolt-on purchase expands Verdantas' water, wastewater, stormwater and land development capabilities and strengthens its geographic presence in Oregon and the broader Pacific Northwest.

RMA Companies has acquired Northwest Geotechnical Consultants, Inc. (dba Northwest Geotech), a Pacific Northwest provider of geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, construction inspection, and construction materials testing services. The deal is an add-on to RMA's testing and inspection platform (RMA is a portfolio company of OceanSound Partners) and expands RMA's soil mechanics lab capabilities and regional presence in Oregon.

Jensen Hughes has acquired Code Unlimited, a building code consulting and fire protection engineering firm headquartered in the Portland/Beaverton, Oregon area. The acquisition, completed July 27, 2022, expands Jensen Hughes' presence in the U.S. Pacific Northwest, adds hundreds of client accounts and several dozen experienced specialists, and is completed while Jensen Hughes is owned by private equity firm Gryphon Investors.

Cumming Group, a portfolio company of Tailwind Capital, has acquired Portland-based project management firm Inici Group as an add-on to expand Cumming’s capabilities in the Pacific Northwest. The transaction is Cumming’s eighth add-on since its 2016 investment by Tailwind and is intended to broaden regional capacity and specialized services for Cumming’s clients.

Cumming Group, a portfolio company of Tailwind Capital, has acquired Portland-based PlanB Consultancy, a specialist in cost management and quantity surveying for chip manufacturers, data centers and other high‑tech facilities. The transaction is an add-on that expands Cumming's project controls and quantity surveying capabilities across the Pacific Northwest and internationally.

Woolpert has acquired Geomatics Data Solutions (GDS), a marine and terrestrial survey data firm, to add bathymetric lidar and hydrographic surveying expertise to its geospatial services. The acquisition establishes a Maritime Solutions market within Woolpert's Geospatial sector and expands the firm's ability to deliver integrated land-to-nearshore elevation data for government and commercial clients.
