HVAC & Mechanical Acquisitions in Illinois

Sila Services, a Goldman Sachs–backed home services platform, has acquired Ahrens & Condill, Inc. and Tangney & Sons Plumbing and Sewer Inc. to expand its footprint in the greater Chicago region. The deals add local HVAC, plumbing and sewer capabilities and teams to Sila’s AA Service Company lead brand in Chicagoland; financial terms and sellers were not disclosed.

Northwinds Services Group has acquired Lifeline Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, a Chicagoland residential plumbing and HVAC services provider. The acquisition is an add-on to Northwinds' HVAC and plumbing platform and will support Lifeline's growth in the Chicago market while retaining the existing leadership team; the seller was former owner Tyler Diciolla.

Trinity Hunt Partners has made a majority investment in Blackhawk Supply, a Hoffman Estates, Illinois-based specialty distributor of HVAC parts, to establish a national HVAC distribution platform. Trinity Hunt appointed Troy Vellinga as CEO and Jason Lewis as Chief Development Officer and intends to scale the business through organic initiatives and buy-and-build add-on acquisitions.

Graycliff Partners' portfolio company Republic Electric Company LLC has combined with T.F. Ehrhart Company to create one of the largest HVAC equipment distributors in the U.S. Midwest. The combination expands Republic's branch footprint and product availability, strengthens supplier relationships (including Johnson Controls), and aims to accelerate regional growth and logistics capabilities.

Crete United, a portfolio company of Ridgemont Equity Partners, has acquired Hartwig Mechanical, Inc., a full-service commercial and industrial mechanical contractor founded in 1958. BaseRock Partners served as exclusive financial advisor to Hartwig; the acquisition expands Crete United's geographic footprint and strengthens its presence in the Midwest.

PremiStar, a PE-backed commercial HVAC, plumbing and building automation platform, has acquired Mercury Mechanical, a full-service HVAC, sheet metal and piping contractor based in Northlake, Illinois. The acquisition expands PremiStar’s footprint in the Chicagoland area, Illinois and southern Wisconsin and brings Mercury Mechanical’s commercial, industrial and healthcare customers into PremiStar’s platform.

PremiStar, a Deerfield, Illinois–based commercial HVAC, plumbing and building automation platform, has acquired Johansen & Anderson, a full-service HVAC, refrigeration and piping contractor in Joliet, Illinois. The add-on expands PremiStar's service density and mechanical service offerings across Will and Grundy counties and broadens its customer footprint in commercial, industrial, healthcare, education and municipal end markets.

Crete Mechanical Group announced a partnership to bring John's Service and Sales (Oglesby, IL) into the Crete network, expanding Crete's HVAC and plumbing presence in Central Illinois. The collaboration will expand service, maintenance and retrofit capabilities for commercial customers in the region as part of Crete's nationwide multi-service platform.

Sila Services, a home services platform, acquired Park Ridge Unique Indoor Comfort, a family-owned HVAC company based in Northbrook, Illinois. The add-on expands Sila Services’ presence in the Chicagoland / Midwest region and brings the Park Ridge team and local expertise into Sila’s platform of residential and commercial home service brands.

GHC Mechanical, an Elk Grove Village, Illinois commercial HVAC/R contractor, formed a partnership with Eagle Hill Partners and Jensen's Plumbing & Heating on November 22, 2022. Generational Equity advised GHC on the transaction; Eagle Hill will provide capital and strategic support while Jensen's joins as an operating partner to support growth and service expansion.

Rush Street Ventures announced that Harmonic Heating & Air Conditioning has acquired Official Heating & Cooling as an add-on. The acquisition expands Harmonic's residential HVAC, plumbing and duct-cleaning footprint in the northwest and western suburbs of Chicago.

Cortec Group, via an affiliated investment vehicle led by Cortec Group Fund VII, completed a growth recapitalization of Four Seasons Heating & Air Conditioning on November 18, 2022, with CEO Dave Musial retaining a significant ownership stake. The investment will support Four Seasons’ organic expansion and an acquisitive growth plan across the Midwest; terms were not disclosed and senior debt was provided by Antares Capital, Adams Street Partners, MetLife Investment Management and Apogem Capital.

Sila Services, a home-services platform, has acquired Libertyville Unique Indoor Comfort, an HVAC provider founded in 1967 and based in Libertyville, Illinois. The add-on expands Sila's footprint in the Greater Chicago area and Midwest, enabling broader delivery of residential heating and cooling repair, maintenance and installation services.

Heartland Home Services, the Midwest residential home-services platform, has acquired Blue Frost Heating & Cooling, a West Chicago provider of residential HVAC services. The acquisition expands Heartland's footprint in the Chicagoland western suburbs; Tom Byrne, Blue Frost's owner since 2009, will remain with the business and management team. Terms were not disclosed.

Heartland Home Services has acquired Deljo Heating and Cooling, a century-old provider of residential HVAC services in the Chicagoland North Shore. Deljo's leadership and technicians will remain in place and will gain access to Heartland's technology and shared resources to accelerate growth; terms were not disclosed.

Easy Ice, a national provider of full-service ice machine subscription solutions, has acquired Biltmore Refrigeration, a Chicago-area refrigeration company that has operated since 1950. The acquisition increases Easy Ice's customer density in its flagship Chicago market and supports the company’s ongoing expansion of its ice-machine leasing and service footprint.

Service Logic, a portfolio company of Leonard Green Partners, has acquired Service Mechanical Industries, Inc. (SMI), a Schaumburg, Illinois-based commercial HVAC installation and service provider. SMI will be integrated into Midwest Mechanical, a Service Logic company, in an add-on acquisition that expands Service Logic’s commercial HVAC footprint in the Midwest.

Tech-24, a national provider of foodservice and commercial HVAC repair services backed by HCI Equity Partners, acquired Yukon Refrigeration on September 20, 2021. The add-on expands Tech-24's footprint in Southern Illinois by adding Yukon’s tenured technician base and established customer relationships; financial terms were not disclosed.

Partners Group has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Reedy Industries, a commercial HVAC, building automation and energy solutions provider, from Audax Private Equity. Audax will remain an investor and on Reedy’s board as Partners Group backs the company’s continued geographic expansion and add-on strategy across the United States.

Granite Comfort, a PE-backed residential HVAC and plumbing platform, has acquired Green Air Care, a Buffalo Grove, Illinois-based residential HVAC and duct cleaning company. The deal expands Granite Comfort's footprint into the Chicagoland market as the fourth member of its platform.

Chicago-based private equity firm Wind Point Partners has acquired Zone Mechanical and will establish a new platform, Zone Climate Services, focused on commercial refrigeration and HVAC installation, maintenance and repair. Zone Mechanical's founders and management are investing alongside Wind Point and will remain involved as the firm pursues organic growth and M&A to build a market-leading RHVAC services platform.

Watsco, Inc., together with Carrier Global Corporation, signed an agreement to acquire Temperature Equipment Corporation (TEC) for Watsco to own 80% and Carrier 20%. TEC is a Chicago/Lansing, Illinois–based HVAC distributor with $291 million in 2020 sales, ~10,000 customers and 32 Midwest locations; the deal expands Watsco's footprint into the U.S. Midwest.

Reedy Industries has acquired Pro-Tek Mechanical, Inc., a Lake Zurich, Illinois-based mechanical contractor, and will integrate it into its General Mechanical division. The deal expands Reedy's HVAC, plumbing and building controls capabilities and increases market density and service coverage in the Chicago metropolitan area, particularly for industrial and pharmaceutical/lab customers.

Reedy Industries has acquired Tessendorf Mechanical Services of Gilberts, Illinois, with Tessendorf to operate within Reedy’s General Mechanical division. The acquisition expands Reedy’s commercial and industrial HVAC, plumbing and building controls capabilities and increases market density in the Chicago metropolitan region.

Tech24, a national foodservice and HVAC equipment service platform backed by HCI Equity Partners, acquired Alliance Mechanical Services, Inc., a Chicago-area provider of commercial HVAC, refrigeration and foodservice equipment services. The add-on expands Tech24's cold-side capabilities and market share in the Chicago area and brings new blue-chip customers to the platform.

Perfect Home Services, a Chicago-area heating, cooling and plumbing company, has acquired family-owned Air Medics Heating & Cooling, Inc. of Oswego, Illinois to expand its presence and streamline operations in the Kendall County / Chicagoland area. The seller was founder Billy Lumino and the deal is part of Perfect Home Services' ongoing regional growth strategy.

Ridgemont Equity Partners acquired Munch's Supply, a Midwest wholesale distributor of HVAC equipment and parts, with first‑lien and equity financing provided by Stellus Capital Management. Munch's, headquartered in New Lenox, Illinois, operates multiple branch locations across the Midwest and will be positioned for further growth under Ridgemont's ownership.

Audax Private Equity recapitalized Reedy Industries, Inc., partnering with the Reedy family and management to support the company's next stage of growth. Reedy, headquartered in Glenview, Illinois, provides commercial HVAC, mechanical services, and energy solutions across the Midwest and will pursue organic growth and strategic acquisitions with Audax's resources.
