Renewable Energy Acquisitions in Virginia

EQT Foundation has made a catalytic growth-stage investment in Overview Energy, a Virginia-based deep tech company developing satellites to beam solar energy from space to Earth. The funding will support Overview's path toward commercial deployment of its continuous space-based solar power beaming technology and help scale its technology for utility, data center and resilience markets.

On May 15, 2025, TerraForm Power, an affiliate of Brookfield Asset Management / Brookfield Renewable, acquired Sun Tribe Development LLC, buying the development business and its 4.1 GW pipeline and integrating the development team. The deal transfers the entirety of Sun Tribe Development's project pipeline and personnel to TerraForm Power, more than doubling TerraForm Power's development pipeline to over 6,000 MW while Sun Tribe's EPC and O&M businesses continue to operate independently.

Madison Energy Infrastructure has acquired Sun Tribe's commercial assets, project pipeline, and commercial development team (Sun Tribe Solar), including onboarding of the commercial development leadership. The divestiture lets Sun Tribe sharpen its focus on utility- and community-scale solar while enabling Madison to expand its municipal and K-12 solar footprint and continue the Solar Empowered Schools program nationally.

A fund managed by Ares Management's Infrastructure Opportunities strategy has acquired Burnham RNG from Edge Natural Resources. The investment will support Burnham's development and construction of a pipeline of renewable natural gas (RNG) and waste-to-biogas projects across the United States, including the Pasco Resource Recovery Center in Pasco, Washington.

Antin Infrastructure Partners has acquired a majority stake in PearlX, a U.S.-based owner and operator of smart grid infrastructure focused on decarbonizing multifamily rental properties. The investment, the first North America commitment from Antin's NextGen platform, will be used to scale PearlX's team and deployment of solar, battery storage and electrification solutions across the U.S.

Aypa Power, a Blackstone portfolio company, has purchased the 100 MW Yadkins Energy Storage project in Chesapeake, Virginia from developer East Point Energy. East Point will continue to provide development services on the project, which is intended to increase grid resilience and support Virginia's clean energy goals.

Brookfield Renewable acquired clean power developer Urban Grid and its pipeline of approximately 20,000 MW (13,000 MW solar and 7,000 MW storage) across 12 U.S. states for $650 million. The deal roughly triples Brookfield Renewable's U.S. development pipeline and Urban Grid will continue to operate under its brand as an independent power producer (IPP).
