Acquisitions in Maryland in 2016

Nehemiah Security, a Tysons Corner–based cybersecurity solutions provider, acquired anomaly-detection vendor Triumfant and its AtomicEye endpoint platform. The acquisition will integrate AtomicEye into Nehemiah's product portfolio to expand its advanced anomaly detection, automated remediation and endpoint visibility capabilities for enterprise and government customers.

Young Innovations, a portfolio company of Linden Capital Partners, has acquired The Orthodontic Store, Inc., a Gaithersburg, Maryland-based provider of orthodontic appliances, supplies and instruments. The Ortho Store CEO Steve Sanders will remain on a consulting basis; the deal expands Young Innovations' specialty distribution platform in the orthodontics segment.

Baird Capital has made a majority investment in R2integrated (R2i), a national digital marketing and marketing-cloud agency; R2i senior management will retain a substantial equity stake and terms were not disclosed. The capital will fund R2i's growth plans — expanding geographically, deepening marketing-cloud capabilities across partners like Adobe, Sitecore and Acquia, and pursuing organic growth and acquisitions — and Baird will place operating partners and principals on the board.

Goode Partners, a New York-based private equity firm, made a strategic growth investment in Silver Diner to fund geographic expansion and accelerate the restaurant group's growth. Silver Diner, headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, operates roughly 15 locations across New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia and will partner with founders Robert Giaimo and Ype Von Hengst to expand its footprint and menu offerings.

Sandy Spring Insurance Corporation, a subsidiary of Sandy Spring Bancorp, has acquired The Advantage Group, Inc., an independent insurance agency based in Westminster, Maryland. The Advantage Group will continue operating under its current name (with eventual rebranding to Sandy Spring Insurance), and the acquisition expands Sandy Spring's capabilities—particularly contractor insurance expertise—and its geographic reach into Western Maryland.

WatchGuard Technologies has acquired the HawkEye G threat detection and response technology from Hexis Cyber Solutions, a division of The KEYW Holding Corporation. The technology will be integrated into WatchGuard's network security and MSSP enablement platform to extend visibility and automated response from the network perimeter to endpoints for small and midsize organizations and distributed enterprises.

LLR Partners, a Philadelphia-based private equity firm, has acquired Learn It Systems, a Baltimore-headquartered national behavioral health services provider focused on children with autism and related special needs. Learn It Systems was a portfolio company of Milestone Partners and the transaction positions LLR to support the company's next stage of growth in the fragmented, high-growth behavioral health market.

Cobalt Ventures, the for-profit holding company for subsidiaries of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas City, has acquired MEDVAL, a provider of Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) compliance and Medicare Set-Aside services. MEDVAL will join Cobalt's CompAlliance brand to expand managed care and MSP compliance capabilities for workers' compensation and liability insurance clients across the U.S.

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. acquired The Van Dyke Technology Group, Inc., a 180-person cybersecurity firm based in Maryland; terms were not disclosed. The acquisition expands Jacobs' cybersecurity capabilities—particularly identity and access management and threat mitigation—to better serve public sector clients (including the U.S. Intelligence Community and Department of Defense) and private-sector critical infrastructure customers.

Affiliated funds of Centerbridge Partners acquired Superior Vision Corporation from Nautic Partners VI. Headquartered in Linthicum, Maryland, Superior Vision is a vision benefits administrator serving employer groups, health plans and government programs and covering over 11 million members; terms were not disclosed.

Cyber Risk Management, LLC (CRM) has acquired APTEC, LLC, a Bethesda-based provider of Identity Governance and Access Management (IAM) services. APTEC will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of CRM, expanding CRM's cybersecurity and IAM capabilities for its Fortune 1000 and government clients; financial terms were not disclosed.

Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery (ADCS Clinics) has acquired Greater Washington Dermatology/Capital Dermatology, a multi-location dermatology practice with offices in Annapolis, Bethesda, Olney and Rockville, Maryland. The deal adds four Mid‑Atlantic locations and clinicians to ADCS's growing national dermatology platform as part of its ongoing acquisitive expansion.
