Transportation Acquisitions in Utah

Wind Point Partners, a Chicago-based private equity firm, has completed a corporate carveout and acquired Velocity Rail Solutions, a provider of mission-critical locomotive services across North America. Wind Point will partner with Velocity management to invest in organic growth and pursue strategic add-on acquisitions to expand the company's rail-related services.

Proficient Auto Logistics is acquiring Ogden, Utah-based Auto Transport Group, adding the carrier as the sixth operating company in its vehicle-transport portfolio. The deal — expected to close in Q3 — expands Proficient's presence in the western United States; Auto Transport Group operates roughly 117 power units and 115 drivers according to FMCSA data.

Gebrüder Weiss has acquired Salt Lake City–based freight forwarder Cargo-Link to expand its LCL (less-than-container-load) services and establish a stronger presence in the Intermountain West. Gebrüder Weiss will retain Cargo-Link's management team, gain access to a 22,000-square-foot warehouse adjacent to Salt Lake City airport, and make Salt Lake City its 15th North American location.

Bentley Systems' corporate venture arm, iTwin Ventures, has acquired Blyncsy, a Salt Lake City–based provider of AI and computer-vision services for transportation operations and roadway asset analytics. Blyncsy will adopt Bentley's iTwin Platform and its AI roadway analytics will be incorporated into Bentley's mobility and infrastructure digital twin offerings to accelerate asset analytics for departments of transportation and other infrastructure owners.

The Staverton Group LLC, an owner-operator vehicle founded by Scott Sorenson and headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, has acquired CITTA Brokerage Company, a customs brokerage and duty-drawback specialist based in Ogden, Utah. The transaction was announced by Woodbridge International, which represented the seller; financial terms and the selling shareholders were not disclosed.

Descartes Systems Group acquired XPS Technologies, a Cottonwood Heights, Utah-based provider of cloud-based multi-carrier parcel shipping solutions, for approximately $65 million upfront plus up to $75 million in performance-based earn-outs. The acquisition expands Descartes' ecommerce shipping and fulfilment capabilities and brings XPS's network of more than 10,000 customers into Descartes' logistics SaaS portfolio.

Direct Connect Logistix (a Huron Capital-backed platform) has acquired Draper, Utah-based Performance Logistics, a third-party provider of temperature-controlled freight services. The add-on expands DCL's geographic footprint into the Mountain West and strengthens its refrigerated and frozen food transportation capabilities.

Bluejay Capital Partners has completed the acquisition of Pacific West, LLC, a Salt Lake City–based niche rail and industrial services firm. The transaction was financed with unitranche debt and an equity co-investment from Southfield Mezzanine; terms were not disclosed and Pacific West COO Dustin Hall retains a meaningful ownership stake. Bluejay intends to expand Pacific West's service offerings and geographic reach across the western United States.

A.P. Moller - Maersk acquired Visible Supply Chain Management (closed Aug 2, 2021) and announced the proposed acquisition of B2C Europe Holding B.V. to expand its e‑commerce logistics capabilities. The deals add B2C fulfilment and parcel delivery expertise in North America and Europe, strengthening Maersk's end‑to‑end e‑commerce logistics offering.
