Environmental Services Acquisitions in Maryland

London-based Reconomy has acquired Integrated Waste Analysts (IWA), a Hanover, Maryland industrial waste-management and recycling services provider, through its North American platform Lincoln Waste Solutions by Reconomy. The deal, IWA being the seventh add-on to the Lincoln platform, expands Reconomy's U.S. capabilities in data-driven waste services, equipment rental and commodity management as it scales across North America.

Miller Environmental Group, a Coalesce Capital portfolio company, has acquired ACE Environmental Services, a full-service environmental contractor operating throughout the Mid-Atlantic. The deal expands Miller's Mid-Atlantic footprint and capabilities in remediation, emergency response, tank management and industrial cleaning as part of its disciplined consolidation strategy.

Hidden Harbor Capital Partners made a strategic investment in McHale & McHale Landscape Design, LLC, a residential landscaping firm headquartered in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The acquisition closed July 16, 2025; founders Kevin and Steve McHale remain invested and active while Hidden Harbor will support the company’s continued growth across the DC, Maryland and Virginia markets.

Casella Waste Systems, a publicly traded waste solutions company, has acquired William Gerber, Inc., a third-generation commercial waste hauler based in Cockeysville, Maryland. The acquisition expands Casella's waste collection capabilities in the Mid-Atlantic and will allow Gerber's to continue serving its Baltimore County commercial customers under a culturally aligned partner.

SePRO Corporation, a portfolio company of Stanley Capital Partners with backing from Goldman Sachs Alternatives, has acquired Green Eyes Environmental Monitoring Solutions. The deal integrates Green Eyes' NuLAB automated nutrient-monitoring technology into SePRO's environmental services platform to expand real-time water quality diagnostics; financial terms were not disclosed and Green Eyes founder Vincent Kelly will remain with the business.

H.I.G. Capital has signed a definitive agreement to sell its portfolio company USALCO to funds managed by TJC (formerly The Jordan Company), with H.I.G. remaining as a minority investor. USALCO, headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, is a leading provider of water treatment chemistries and services operating 33 manufacturing and distribution facilities across North America; the transaction is expected to close in the coming months.

Virginia Green, a Richmond-based lawn care provider, has acquired L.S.L. Lawn Service in Maryland — its first acquisition outside Virginia. L.S.L. customers will retain existing service leaders, staff, and pricing while gaining access to Virginia Green's expanded service offerings; Virginia Green is PE-backed and operates a team of 350+ professionals.

Reclamation Technologies USA, LLC (RTI), a joint venture formed by Heritage Environmental Services and Fielding Environmental, has purchased AllCool Refrigerant Reclaim, LLC, an EPA-certified refrigerant service company based in Frederick, Maryland. The acquisition expands RTI's refrigerant reclamation and services footprint on the East Coast and adds AllCool's reclamation, cylinder exchange and refrigerant sales capabilities to RTI's national network.

Sims Metal, the metal recycling business of Sims Limited, has agreed to acquire the assets of Baltimore Scrap Corp and its affiliates for US$177 million plus working capital and other adjustments. The deal adds 17 facilities (including four shredders) across Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey and ~600,000 tonnes per year of scrap volume, strengthening Sims' North American footprint; the transaction is expected to close in October 2023 subject to customary approvals.

Wind River Environmental, a Marlborough, Massachusetts-based environmental services platform backed by Gryphon Investors, has acquired B & P Environmental of Crofton, Maryland. The add-on expands Wind River’s non-hazardous liquid waste and wastewater services footprint into Maryland and brings B & P’s municipal, industrial and commercial customer base and technical team into Wind River’s platform.

ERM, the global sustainability consultancy, has acquired Coho, a climate, renewable energy and water advisory firm based near Washington, DC. The deal brings Coho’s ~50-person team and specialist capabilities into ERM to expand climate, renewable energy and water resiliency advisory services and accelerate clients’ decarbonization and water-optimization efforts.

Senske Services has acquired Blades of Green, Inc., a lawn care and pest control company based in Edgewater, Maryland, expanding Senske's footprint into the Mid-Atlantic (Maryland and Virginia). Blades of Green's founder Mark Leahy sold the business and will remain on as a consultant while his brother Brad Leahy will continue to manage operations.

Investment funds managed by Morgan Stanley Capital Partners (MSCP) have acquired Apex Companies, a Rockville, Maryland–based environmental consulting and engineering firm, from Sentinel Capital Partners. Sentinel will retain a minority stake post-closing; financial terms were not disclosed. Apex operates over 1,100 professionals across ~50 offices and provides services in stormwater compliance, water resources, ESG, health & safety, transportation, and civil engineering.

Knox Lane, a San Francisco-based growth-oriented investment firm, has acquired a majority stake in Ruppert Landscape, Inc., a leading provider of commercial landscape services headquartered in Laytonsville, Maryland. The partnership will support Ruppert's plans to expand its footprint organically and through strategic add-on acquisitions while founder Craig Ruppert and management retain a significant investment and continue to lead the business.

InSite, a GEF Capital-backed building intelligence and ESG data management platform, has acquired SOL VISTA, a provider of energy monitoring and optimization solutions for the hospitality sector. The deal expands InSite’s hospitality offerings and combines SOL VISTA’s Skywalk analytics platform with InSite’s SaaS and managed services to enhance energy optimization and ESG reporting for hotel portfolios and other commercial properties.

Sweeping Corporation of America (SCA), the largest power sweeping company in the United States, has acquired J & M Sweeping, LLC, a Middle River, Maryland provider of commercial and government sweeping services. The acquisition expands SCA's footprint in the Baltimore metro area and continues its roll-up strategy of local sweeping businesses; terms were not disclosed.

L2 Capital Partners has acquired Ecotone, Inc., a Forest Hill, Maryland-based provider of ecological restoration design, engineering, and construction services. The private equity firm will partner with Ecotone's leadership to accelerate growth and expand the company’s restoration, mitigation banking, and stormwater management capabilities across government and private markets.

SavATree has acquired Branches Tree Experts of Kensington, Maryland, bringing founder Michael Guercin and his staff into SavATree’s Rockville, MD branch. The acquisition expands SavATree’s presence in the DC Metro area and adds Branches’ arboriculture and forestry consulting capabilities to SavATree’s residential and commercial tree, shrub and lawn care services.

Aurora Capital Partners has acquired Curtis Bay Medical Waste Services, a vertically integrated medical waste collection, treatment and disposal provider headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, from Summer Street Capital Partners. Aurora said it will support Curtis Bay's organic growth and pursue add-on acquisitions as part of a buy-and-build strategy to expand the company's footprint and service capabilities across the U.S.

EIS Holdings, a portfolio company of O2 Investment Partners, announced an investment in Maryland-based Potomac Abatement, a hazardous-material remediation, demolition and abatement services provider serving the Baltimore–Washington and Northern Virginia markets. The transaction expands EIS's Mid-Atlantic presence and reinforces its national environmental remediation platform, which now has over 700 employees and 22 offices.

West Street Infrastructure Partners III, an infrastructure fund managed by Goldman Sachs Merchant Banking Division, has agreed to acquire Synagro Technologies, Inc., the largest provider of wastewater biosolids solutions in North America, from EQT Infrastructure II. The transaction, expected to close in December 2020, transfers a platform that manages over 14 million tons of biosolids annually across 24 facilities and serves roughly 1,000 municipal and industrial customers across 35 states.

Valicor Environmental Services, a provider of non-hazardous wastewater treatment services and a platform backed by Pritzker Private Capital, has acquired Water Depot’s centralized wastewater treatment facility in Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland. The acquisition expands Valicor’s network of CWT facilities and strengthens its service offering in the Mid-Atlantic for both government and private-sector clients.

Union Park Capital has acquired Earth Networks, a Germantown, Maryland-based provider of environmental intelligence and the world’s largest hyperlocal weather network. Earth Networks will join Union Park’s Advanced Environmental Monitoring (AE Monitoring) platform to expand its sensing, data and analytics capabilities; terms were not disclosed.
