Environmental Services Acquisitions in Michigan

GFL Environmental, a portfolio company of Apollo Asset Management, has acquired Plummer's Environmental Services, a Grand Rapids-area provider of industrial and municipal environmental services. Charter Capital served as exclusive sell-side advisor to Plummer's in the transaction, which expands GFL's liquid and industrial waste capabilities and regional presence in Michigan.

Arcwood Environmental, a national environmental and waste management services provider headquartered in Indianapolis, has acquired ERG Environmental, a Michigan-based hazardous waste and remediation services firm. The deal strengthens Arcwood's operational footprint across the Great Lakes (Michigan, Indiana, Ohio) and expands its capabilities in industrial environmental services, compliance support, and emergency response.

Tamarix Equity Partners has made a strategic equity investment in Royal Oak Recycling, a multi-regional commercial recycling provider headquartered in Metro Detroit. The growth capital will support Royal Oak Recycling’s national expansion, deepen partnerships with marquee customers and vendors, and enhance the company’s service delivery across its nine facilities and 22-state coverage area.

TIGRIS Aquatic Services, a portfolio company of Plexus Capital, acquired LakePro, Inc., a Swartz Creek, Michigan-based aquatic services firm. The deal expands TIGRIS’s Midwest footprint and adds LakePro’s capabilities in aquatic vegetation control, water quality management and lake consulting to TIGRIS’s national platform; LakePro was founded by Paul and Christina Dominick, who are exiting ownership.

Fort Point Capital portfolio company Jones Lake Management has partnered with Savin Lake Services, a Hale, Michigan-based provider of pond and lake management, to expand Jones Lake's service offering and add dredging capabilities in Michigan. Savin's owner Guy Savin will continue to lead Michigan operations as part of Jones Lake's broader network, strengthening the platform's geographic footprint and service capabilities.

Bloomfield Hills-based Titan Environmental Solutions Inc. has completed the acquisition of Detroit-based Standard Waste Services LLC. The deal adds Standard's commercial and industrial roll-off and front-load waste and recycling services — including ~20 collection vehicles and ~750 customers — to Titan's Greater Detroit operations to increase scale and capture operating synergies.

Brixey & Meyer Capital (BMC) has acquired Hamlett Engineering Sales Co (HESCO) and Lipp American Tank Systems (LATS), two Novi, Michigan–based service providers and process equipment distributors serving municipal water systems and large waste producers. The businesses were acquired from Kevin Livingston and Glenn Hummel, who will continue to lead and remain as owners; BMC says the investment will expand capabilities and accelerate growth.

Caymus Equity Partners LLC has acquired Quality Environmental Services, LLC, a Beaverton, Michigan–based provider of environmental remediation services. The investment — Caymus Equity's third from Fund II and fifteenth platform investment overall — will provide capital to expand Quality's service offerings, enter new geographies and verticals, and pursue strategic acquisitions.

Veolia North America has completed the acquisition of U.S. Industrial Technologies (USIT), a Michigan-based provider of hazardous, non-hazardous and recyclable industrial waste management services. The deal adds USIT's main operations in Livonia, Michigan and an operation in Knoxville, Tennessee, bringing more than 70 employees into Veolia's Environmental Solutions and Services division and expanding its hazardous waste treatment capacity and U.S. market share.

ENTACT, a portfolio company of J.F. Lehman & Company, has completed the acquisition of White Lake Dock & Dredge, a specialist in environmental dredging, sediment capping, and marine construction. The deal is an add-on to ENTACT's remediation platform intended to expand its sediment remediation capabilities and better serve public- and private-sector clients across the United States.

City Capital Ventures (CCV) made a strategic investment and recapitalization of SERVPRO of Saginaw to form Great Lakes Restoration Group, with the business continuing to operate as SERVPRO of Saginaw. Founders Randy and Tina Miller retain a significant stake and remain in leadership while CCV will support growth and multi-location expansion; debt financing was provided by Old National Bank and Texas Capital Bank and terms were not disclosed.

Duke's Root Control, a Comvest Partners-backed platform, has acquired Underground Infrastructure Services (UIS) of Livonia, Michigan. The add-on expands Duke's capabilities into underground utility inspection, hydro excavation and lead service line remediation, broadening its service offering and geographic presence.

Mott Corporation has acquired Digested Organics, a Michigan-based engineering and filtration manufacturer that builds water reclamation solutions for agricultural, food & beverage and waste-stream customers. The deal expands Mott’s capabilities in water/wastewater treatment, skid manufacturing and clean energy solutions; Digested Organics’ CEO will remain and employees will join Mott’s employee ownership program.

LRS, a leading independent waste and recycling services provider, has acquired Michigan-based Michiana Recycling & Disposal and Modern Waste Systems. The transactions add three transfer facilities, a dense collection base across Michigan and Indiana, and more than 200 combined employees, expanding LRS's footprint in the region.

Valicor Environmental Services, a Pritzker Private Capital portfolio company, has acquired Usher Oil, a fourth-generation centralized wastewater treatment facility in Detroit, Michigan. The add-on expands Valicor’s wastewater treatment and recycling capabilities in the Detroit market, adding a 450,000 sq. ft. CWT facility that processes roughly five million gallons of wastewater annually.

Geocycle LLC, a subsidiary of Holcim (US) Inc., has acquired CM Rubber Technologies, Inc. in Coleman, Michigan. The acquisition (13 employees, 21 acres, processing equipment and trucks) will enable Geocycle to process used tires into tire-derived fuel for Holcim's Alpena cement plant and expand sustainable waste management services in Northern Michigan.

Authority Brands has acquired DRYmedic Restoration Services; terms were not disclosed. DRYmedic, founded in 2014 and serving the Detroit region with over 40 trucks, will join Authority Brands' portfolio to support national growth and expand the franchisor's restoration service offerings; Greenwich Capital Group served as DRYmedic's exclusive financial advisor.

SavATree has merged with West Michigan Tree Services (part of Grand Arbor Group), expanding its branch footprint in Michigan. Owners Dan Klaver and Larry Pfeifer will remain with the business as SavATree integrates the company's residential and commercial tree and shrub care operations.

Retriev Technologies has acquired Battery Solutions to create the largest comprehensive end-of-life battery management solution in North America. The deal combines Retriev's lithium‑ion processing capabilities with Battery Solutions' cross‑chemistry collection, sorting, logistics and fulfillment network to expand capacity and service offerings across EV, telecom, consumer electronics and waste management end markets.

BrightView Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: BV) has acquired TDE Group, a snow removal and commercial landscaping company headquartered in the Detroit suburbs with operations in Windsor, Ontario. The acquisition expands BrightView's presence and service capabilities in the Detroit/Windsor and Upper Midwest markets; terms were not disclosed.

Credo Private Capital acquired Tuff Turf Molebusters, a Byron Center, Michigan-based pest control and fertilizer services company, in a transaction that closed February 28, 2022. Generational Equity advised the seller; Credo positions itself as a long-term, flexible investor to support continued growth of the business.

Mason Wells, a Milwaukee-based private equity firm, has acquired SWAT Group, Inc., a radon mitigation and vapor intrusion remediation services provider founded in 1988. SDR Ventures served as exclusive sell-side advisor; SWAT operates in 33 states with over 120 field installation technicians and will be consolidated under Mason Wells to support growth and scaling.

Valicor Environmental Services, a Pritzker Private Capital-backed provider of non-hazardous wastewater treatment, has acquired EnviroSolids, LLC, a Dearborn, Michigan-based waste processing and recycling company. The acquisition is an add-on to Valicor's platform that expands its Midwest footprint and strengthens its non-hazardous waste treatment, solidification and recycling capabilities.

Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) has acquired Joy's Johns, a Niles, Michigan-based provider of portable restroom rentals and servicing, expanding LRS's portable services footprint into Southwest Michigan and Northern Indiana. Financial terms were not disclosed; the deal brings Joy's Johns' employees and customers into LRS's broader portable restroom and environmental services network.

Sweeping Corporation of America (SCA) has acquired C&J Parking Lot Sweeping, expanding SCA’s footprint into Michigan and marking its first venture into the Detroit market. C&J, founded in 1978 and known as one of Michigan’s largest and earliest nationally certified sweeping contractors, provides parking lot and street sweeping services for residential, commercial and industrial properties; terms were not disclosed.

Blackmon Mooring & BMS CAT (BMS CAT) has acquired Jarvis Property Restoration, a Detroit-founded restoration company with locations across Michigan and Florida. Bill Jarvis and Matt Jarvis will remain in leadership to assist integration as BMS CAT expands its national footprint and service capacity.

TRP Capital Partners committed $30 million of equity to Priority Waste, a Clinton Township, Michigan-based waste hauling company, to support growth and platform expansion. In conjunction with the investment, Priority Waste closed three acquisitions to expand its environmental services footprint across Metro Detroit; the company employs over 60 people and operates multiple facilities including a transfer station.

Webb Chemical Service Corporation has acquired Trace Analytical Laboratories, Inc., an environmental testing lab based in Muskegon, Michigan, from co-owners Bill Schroeder and Bruce Pelletier. The acquisition gives Webb Chemical in-house laboratory capabilities to support its chemical distribution and related services; Calder Capital served as exclusive M&A advisor to Trace Analytical Laboratories.
