HVAC & Mechanical Acquisitions in North Carolina

Broadtree Partners, a Charlotte-based private equity firm, has acquired ACME Plumbing Company, a fourth-generation commercial and residential plumbing services business headquartered in Durham, North Carolina. ACME will serve as Broadtree's platform for its mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) services strategy while founder Larry Tilley stays on in an advisory capacity.

PremiStar announced that Smith's Refrigeration, a full-service mechanical contractor based in Lumberton, North Carolina, has joined the PremiStar family of companies. The acquisition expands PremiStar’s HVAC, refrigeration and mechanical capabilities in North Carolina and South Carolina and strengthens its service coverage across healthcare, senior living, education, manufacturing and government end markets.

Centre Partners and Baldwin Creek Partners formed TruTemp Holdings, LLC and acquired Maynor Service Company to create a field-services platform focused on HVAC, plumbing and electrical services in the U.S. Southeast. Maynor’s president Brett Chappell invested alongside the firms and will lead TruTemp as the platform pursues a buy-and-build consolidation strategy across the region.

CCMP Growth Advisors has acquired Airo Mechanical, a Mooresville, North Carolina-based provider of HVAC and plumbing installation services, from an investor group led by Thomas Investments and Stephens Capital Partners. Management (CEO Matt Baude and CFO Angelia Ryan) will remain significant shareholders and Pete Papagiannis will join the board to advise on growth initiatives as CCMP Growth helps expand Airo's capabilities and geographic footprint across the Southeast.

Advantage Distribution Holdings (ADH), the HVAC distribution platform backed by Tigertail Capital Partners, has acquired CTC Supply, a Fayetteville, North Carolina-based distributor of HVAC equipment, parts and supplies operating four locations across coastal North Carolina. The transaction brings the Sutton family into a partnership with ADH and names Clay Holder as ADH CEO as the platform pursues further M&A and regional expansion.

Leap Partners, a Nashville-based home services platform, has acquired Greensboro-based Master Plumbers Heating and Cooling to strengthen its presence in North Carolina. The former owner, Lee Amos, will remain leading day-to-day operations under the Master Plumbers name as the business joins Leap Partners' portfolio of HVAC, plumbing and electrical companies.

The Riverside Company has invested in THE SEALS Franchising, LLC as the fifth add-on to its portfolio company EverSmith Brands. The acquisition brings a commercial refrigeration gasket replacement franchisor into EverSmith's multi-brand franchisor platform to accelerate franchise development, national account partnerships and same-store sales growth.

Building Controls & Solutions (BCS) has acquired Controlstop, LLC (Control Stop), a Charlotte-based distributor of building automation and temperature control products. The deal expands BCS’s branch coverage and technical capabilities in the Carolinas to provide broader in-market service for commercial HVAC customers across North America.

Columbia Home Services, a Dallas-area residential and light commercial home services platform, has partnered with Wilmington-based Airmax Heating and Cooling. The deal brings Airmax into Columbia's platform to expand the company's HVAC presence in North Carolina while retaining Airmax leadership and employees.

Climatec, LLC (a Bosch company) has acquired the business of Engineered Control Solutions (ECS), a building automation solutions provider with offices in North and South Carolina. The acquisition (terms undisclosed) strengthens Climatec's Southeast US operations and expands its building automation capabilities across education, government, healthcare, and commercial building markets.

Air Conditioning Specialist, Inc. (an HVAC and plumbing platform backed by Hidden Harbor Capital Partners) has acquired Mac Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc., a Brevard, North Carolina-based provider of residential and light commercial HVAC services founded in 1990. The deal expands ACS's service footprint in North Carolina and the broader southeast; financing was provided by Capital Southwest and First Eagle Alternative Credit, and Hatters Group served as sell‑side advisor to Mac.

Trinity Hunt Partners’ commercial HVAC platform, NexCore, has partnered with Sylvester & Cockrum (S&C), a provider of commercial HVAC, plumbing, and electrical services across the Southeastern United States. The deal expands NexCore’s geographic footprint and service capabilities in the Southeast as an add-on to its existing platform of partner companies.

Thermogenics, a North American provider of boiler lifecycle solutions, has acquired Matt Marshall & Co., a 70-year-old boiler service company based in Greensboro, North Carolina. The acquisition expands Thermogenics' service capabilities in the US Southeast and introduces new presence in the mid-Atlantic while allowing Matt Marshall & Co. to continue operating under its existing name.

Southeast Mechanical (a Palladin Consumer Retail Partners-backed HVAC platform) has acquired All Ways Heating and Air, LLC, a Weaverville, North Carolina-based HVAC services provider. The add-on expands Southeast Mechanical’s presence north of Asheville and strengthens its residential and commercial service footprint in western North Carolina.

Southeast Mechanical (SEM), a Winston-Salem-based HVAC, plumbing and electrical services platform backed by Palladin Consumer Retail Partners, has acquired Greensboro-based Gentry Air Inc. The add-on deal expands SEM's presence and service density in the North Carolina Triad market and partners with former owners Jennifer and Greg Gill to continue providing HVAC sales and service.

Southeast Mechanical, a Palladin Consumer Retail Partners-backed HVAC, plumbing and electrical platform based in Winston-Salem, acquired Wilkesboro-based Carolina Comfort Heating & Air Conditioning. The acquisition expands SEM's footprint west of Winston-Salem in North Carolina; Carolina Comfort owners Scott Anderson and Nolan Eller will continue in an ongoing partnership with SEM.

Fidelity Building Services Group (Fidelity BSG) acquired Air One Industries, a North Carolina-based mechanical/HVAC provider, adding the company to Fidelity’s integrated building solutions platform. The acquisition expands Fidelity BSG’s service footprint in the Southeast and brings Air One’s capabilities in HVAC installation, chiller/process cooling, building automation, and 24/7 maintenance into its family of companies.

Crete Mechanical Group, a Ridgemont Equity Partners-backed commercial mechanical services platform, has recapitalized Greensboro, North Carolina-based AC Corporation and added it as a partner company. The transaction is intended to accelerate AC Corp.'s growth and expand Crete's presence across North Carolina and adjacent East Coast markets by leveraging Crete's operational support and partner network.

Freeman Spogli & Co. has partnered with NearU Services, a Charlotte-based home services platform, in a recapitalization to support NearU's next phase of growth. NearU's founder Ashish Achlerkar and existing investor SkyKnight Capital will remain significant shareholders as the company pursues geographic expansion, strategic acquisitions, and investments in team, training, and technology.

Palladin Consumer Retail Partners has made a majority investment in SEM Holdings, LLC (Southeast Mechanical), creating an operator-driven HVAC platform focused on expansion across the southeastern United States. Existing shareholders, including Colmont Group and management, retain an ownership stake; Palladin will provide capital and operating support to accelerate organic growth and add-on acquisitions.

Southern HVAC Corporation acquired Pro Plumbing Services, LLC, a Lexington, North Carolina-based residential plumbing, electrical, heating and air contractor. The bolt-on expands Southern HVAC's Plumbing & Air Service Company footprint in the Piedmont Triad (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point and Lexington) and allows Pro Plumbing to retain its brand while gaining access to Southern HVAC's training, sales, marketing and operational resources.

Ridgemont Equity Partners provided significant growth capital to Crete Mechanical Group (CMG) to support the build-out of a national platform of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and building automation service companies. Financing for the transaction was led by Ares Management Corporation and Churchill Asset Management; terms were not disclosed.

NearU Services, a founder-led home services platform based in Charlotte, has acquired PlumbV Inc., a Durham-based plumbing services provider serving residential and commercial customers in the Raleigh-Durham market. The deal will allow NearU to expand its local presence and service capabilities while PlumbV will continue operating under its existing local brand and management.

SuperHero Fire Protection, a portfolio company of Hidden Harbor Capital Partners, has acquired Twin City Sprinkler, a provider of fire, life, and safety solutions to commercial and industrial customers. The add-on strengthens SuperHero's presence in North Carolina and expands its sprinkler and life-safety capabilities while Twin City will continue to be led by CEO Darrell Inman.

NearU Services, a founder-led home services platform, has acquired Carolina Power and Generators, a Carthage, North Carolina provider of generator installation and electrical services. The deal expands NearU's generator business segment and strengthens its presence in the Sandhills region while Carolina Power will continue to operate under its local brand with existing management.

Southern Home Services Corporation has acquired The Plumbing & Air Service Company, a Kernersville, North Carolina-based plumbing, heating and air conditioning services provider. The acquired company will retain its branding while gaining access to Southern Home Services’ sales, back-office and operational support as an add-on to Southern’s platform.

NearU Services, a founder-led home services platform, has acquired Byrum Heating and A/C, a long-standing HVAC services provider with locations in Monroe and Marshville, North Carolina. The acquisition expands NearU's presence in the Charlotte metro and extends its service footprint into South Carolina; Byrum will continue operating under its local brand with existing management remaining in place.

United Air Temp, a Summit Park-backed residential HVAC platform based in Lorton, Virginia, has acquired Comfort First Heating and Cooling, a Sanford, North Carolina-based residential HVAC services provider founded in 2010. The acquisition is an add-on that expands UAT's footprint in North Carolina and represents the company's second buy-and-build acquisition since Summit Park's recapitalization of UAT.

CoolSys has acquired Thermal Resource Sales and Supermarket Environment Services Company (TRS-SESCO), a Kernersville, North Carolina-based commercial and industrial HVAC and energy solutions provider. The deal expands CoolSys's presence in the Southeast and broadens its custom-engineered, sustainable HVAC capabilities for mission-critical industries such as healthcare, education, data centers and grocery retail.

NearU Services, a founder-led home services platform based in Charlotte, North Carolina, has acquired Mountain Air Mechanical Contractors, a long-standing HVAC provider in Asheville and western North Carolina. The acquisition expands NearU's service footprint and capabilities in western North Carolina while Mountain Air will continue to operate under its existing local brand and management team.

NearU Services, a founder-led home services platform based in Charlotte, acquired Happy Home Services, a long-standing HVAC, plumbing, and electrical services provider in Durham, North Carolina. Happy Home will continue operating under its local brand and existing management, while NearU plans to bolster customer service capabilities and expand its plumbing offerings in the Triangle market.

NearU Services, a founder-led home services platform based in Charlotte, acquired Carolina Air, Inc. Heating & Cooling, a Pinehurst, North Carolina HVAC contractor. The deal expands NearU's footprint in the Raleigh‑Durham Triangle and Sandhills regions and Carolina Air will continue to operate under its local brand with existing management.

Horizon Group Holdings (HGH) has acquired Eanes Heating & Air Conditioning, a High Point, North Carolina-based HVAC services company founded in 1968. The deal is HGH's third acquisition in the last 12 months and marks the firm's first North Carolina brand as part of its Southeast geographic expansion and platform roll-up strategy.

SkyKnight Capital made a growth investment in NearU Services, a Charlotte-based home services platform focused on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical services. The founder and CEO, Ashish Achlerkar, remains invested and NearU will use the capital and SkyKnight's strategic resources to accelerate organic growth and add-on acquisitions across the Southeastern United States.

Leonard Green & Partners acquired Service Logic from Warburg Pincus. Service Logic, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, operates 76 branches across the United States as a leading provider of commercial HVAC aftermarket maintenance, repair and replacement services; the company will remain led by CEO Craig Steinke and management, and Leonard Green intends to support continued organic growth and strategic acquisitions. Terms were not disclosed; committed debt financing was provided by JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, Antares Capital, and Crescent Capital.

NearU HVAC Services has acquired Bass Air Conditioning of Fayetteville, North Carolina, marking NearU's third acquisition in 2020 and more than doubling its workforce in the eastern North Carolina market. Bass will continue to operate under its local brand while NearU leverages Bass's in-house training facilities to expand customer service capabilities and career opportunities for employees.

Strikepoint Group Holdings (SGH) announced the acquisition of Eanes Heating & Air Conditioning, a family-run HVAC services provider based in High Point, North Carolina. The deal expands SGH's home services platform into North Carolina as part of a broader Southeast growth strategy and will support organic growth and add-on activity for the platform.
