Building Products Acquisitions in Connecticut

White Cap has completed the acquisition of Colony Hardware from Audax Private Equity. The strategic combination expands White Cap's branch network across the Eastern and Central United States and brings Colony's route-based jobsite distribution, product portfolio, and service capabilities into White Cap's larger specialty construction supply platform; financial terms were not disclosed.

Leonard Green & Partners has completed the acquisition of NEFCO Holding Company LLC from Bertram Capital. NEFCO is a Hartford, Connecticut-based value-added distributor of SHARP products, tools, safety items and jobsite consumables with more than 70 U.S. locations; terms were not disclosed.

Yonah Group, an entrepreneurial partnership led by Army veterans Michael Maniaci and Miles Kirwin, has acquired the exclusive Pella Windows & Doors distributorship serving Connecticut and parts of New York (Pella CT-NY) from longtime owner-operator Desmond Rea (associated with DHD Windows and Doors). The distributorship will continue to operate independently, serving homeowners, builders and architects across Connecticut and Westchester/Putnam/Dutchess counties, with the new owners emphasizing investment in talent, technology and customer service.

Kinderhook Industries has acquired US Anchors, the parent company of the TOGGLER, Wej-It, and Heckmann brands, in partnership with Ted and David Garfield. The Garfield Family will retain an ownership stake, Jordan Eisenberg will join as CEO, and Kinderhook plans to accelerate growth through organic initiatives and strategic acquisitions with financing provided by Twin Brook Capital Partners and Kayne Anderson Private Credit.

Lockmasters, a portfolio company of Dominus Capital, has acquired Orchard Lock Distributors LLC, a Hamden, Connecticut-based wholesale distributor of commercial and architectural door locksets and security solutions. Orchard Lock will operate as the New England division of JLM Wholesale (a Lockmasters affiliate), with former owner Daniel Carpey remaining in a leadership role.

The Cook & Boardman Group LLC has acquired OKEE Industries, Inc. along with its affiliates Builders Hardware Inc., Construction Hardware, Inc., and Hardware Specialties, Inc. The acquisition expands Cook & Boardman’s commercial door, frame and hardware distribution footprint across the Northeastern United States and is an add-on under Cook & Boardman’s PE-backed ownership.

Grove Mountain Partners has acquired a majority stake in Plimpton & Hills, a 125-year-old wholesale distributor of plumbing and HVAC equipment serving the Northeast. The Stephens Group made a minority investment to support the transaction; the Hills family retains equity and board representation while longtime executive Susan Montgomery is promoted to President.

Swedish lift manufacturer Cibes Lift Group has acquired Elevator Service Company, Inc., a Torrington, Connecticut-based provider of home lifts, platform lifts and elevator maintenance and modernization services. The acquisition gives Cibes a stronger U.S. presence and retains Elevator Service Company as a wholly owned subsidiary under new management.

Olympia Chimney & Venting, a subsidiary of Olympia Chimney Supply Holdings, LLC, has acquired SnapLok Systems' U.S. and Canadian business operations. The deal brings SnapLok's patented chimney and duct cleaning products and inventor-founder David Kresge into a long-term partnership with Olympia, with SnapLok products to be distributed through Copperfield Chimney Supply.

Generational Equity advised Modern Woodcrafts LLC of Plainville, Connecticut in its sale to an unnamed private investor. The transaction closed on March 3, 2023; Modern Woodcrafts is an architectural millwork manufacturer that provides end-to-end design, manufacturing and installation services for high-end commercial interiors.

JM Family Enterprises, Inc. has acquired Rollease Acmeda, a Stamford-based designer and distributor of window covering hardware and automated shade systems, from ShoreView Partners. The deal adds Rollease Acmeda (approximately 270 associates) to JM Family's JM Specialty Distribution platform as the company looks to expand its specialty distribution capabilities and global footprint.

SLIPNOT, a Detroit-based provider of safety flooring and surface technologies, has acquired Connecticut-based Amstep Products, a maker of epoxy-coated stair treads and nosings. The acquisition — completed with strategic support from Victor Capital Partners — expands SLIPNOT’s stair safety product portfolio and broadens its end-market coverage across healthcare, commercial/retail, municipal and marine sectors.

Bertram Capital has made an investment in Hartford, Connecticut-based NEFCO Holding Company LLC, a family-owned value-added distributor of specialty construction (SHARP) products. The capital will support NEFCO's growth and buy-and-build strategy — leveraging Bertram's operating resources (including Bertram Labs) to accelerate organic growth and acquisitions across the East Coast and Midwest.

Allegion plc has completed the acquisition of STANLEY Access Technologies and related automatic entrance assets from Stanley Black & Decker for $900 million in cash. The purchase adds a leading North American manufacturer, installer and service provider of automatic doors—with ~ $340 million in 2021 net sales—strengthening Allegion's seamless access product portfolio and installation/maintenance capabilities in the Americas.

Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS) has acquired CULTEC, Inc., a family-owned manufacturer of plastic stormwater and septic chambers headquartered in Brookfield, Connecticut. The acquisition expands ADS' product portfolio in stormwater and on-site septic wastewater solutions and brings CULTEC's engineering and manufacturing capabilities into ADS' national manufacturing and distribution platform.

NSi Industries, a portfolio company of Blue Sea Capital, has acquired Bridgeport Fittings, a Stratford, Connecticut-based supplier of high-performance electrical cable and conduit fittings. The deal expands NSi's product portfolio and distribution offering to electrical contractors and distributor partners, combining complementary product lines to drive growth.
