Cybersecurity Acquisitions in Maryland

Kaseya, the Miami-based provider of AI-powered IT management and cybersecurity software, has acquired INKY, an AI-driven email security provider focused on MSPs and SMBs. The acquisition brings INKY's generative-AI email protection into Kaseya's platform (including Kaseya 365 User) to strengthen email security capabilities and threat detection across Kaseya's MSP customer base.

Vectra AI has acquired Netography, a cloud-native network observability vendor, to integrate Netography Fusion into the Vectra AI platform (rebranded as Vectra Fusion) and strengthen visibility across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. The deal combines Netography's agentless, software-defined observability with Vectra AI's AI-driven attack signal clarity to expand the platform's cloud-network security capabilities.

Chicago-based private equity firm ParkerGale has made a growth investment in RedZone Technologies, an Annapolis-headquartered managed security service provider (MSSP). The investment will support RedZone's organic and inorganic growth plans, expand partner relationships, and accelerate sales and marketing while RedZone focuses on security, compliance, and service delivery for highly regulated industries.

Lansweeper has acquired Redjack to integrate Redjack's passive, traffic-based asset discovery and application dependency mapping into Lansweeper's Technology Asset Intelligence platform. The deal expands Lansweeper's visibility and attack-surface management capabilities, bringing Redjack's customers, technology, partners, and workforce into Lansweeper's product roadmap.

Cisco has acquired SnapAttack, a threat detection and defense company that provides a detection-content lifecycle platform for Security Operations Centers (SOCs). The acquisition will accelerate detection engineering, validation and SIEM modernization capabilities and enable closer integration with Splunk's TDIR and SIEM offerings to improve defenders' visibility and content management.

Danvers-based Network Coverage has acquired Baltimore-area Think|Stack, a cybersecurity and cloud solutions provider. The deal expands Network Coverage's managed IT, cybersecurity and cloud capabilities and brings Think|Stack's client base (200+ clients, including 160+ credit unions) into the combined business; Network Coverage Chief Strategy Officer Brian David was promoted to Co-CEO alongside Think|Stack CEO Chris Sachse.

Everfox, a TPG‑backed provider of government and critical‑infrastructure cybersecurity solutions, has acquired Yakabod, Inc, a developer of secure case management software for sensitive investigations and incident response. The deal integrates Yakabod's enterprise case management capabilities into Everfox's EverShield insider risk platform to expand the company's governance and secure case management functionality for government and enterprise customers.

SIXGEN, a mission-focused cybersecurity solutions provider, has acquired Secure Enterprise Engineering, Inc. (Secure-EE), a Hanover, Maryland-based provider of bespoke cybersecurity products and engineering services, including the Distant Rook platform. The deal is SIXGEN's first acquisition following an investment from Washington Harbour Partners and is intended to expand SIXGEN's software, systems engineering and JCWA-aligned capabilities for defense, intelligence and critical infrastructure customers.

Synergy ECP, a provider of cybersecurity, software and systems engineering services, has acquired SPYROS Information & Technology Consulting, a cyber operations firm supporting the U.S. Department of Defense, Intelligence Community and national laboratories. The transaction was supported by Synergy ECP's partner Falfurrias Capital Partners and positions Synergy to deepen cyber capabilities and expand access to key national security customers.

Haveli Investments, a technology-focused private equity firm, has completed the acquisition of ZeroFox for approximately $350 million, taking the company private at $1.14 per share. ZeroFox will be delisted from Nasdaq and will receive strategic support and capital from Haveli to accelerate product innovation, expand into new markets, and grow customer acquisition for its external cybersecurity platform.

Washington Harbour Partners LP has acquired SIXGEN Incorporated, a cybersecurity firm serving U.S. national security, intelligence, defense and critical commercial industries. SIXGEN will remain led by founder and CEO Ethan Dietrich, and Washington Harbour said it will invest to accelerate SIXGEN's growth and expand its high-assurance cyber and cyber-AI capabilities for government and critical infrastructure customers.

Falfurrias Capital Partners announced a platform investment in Synergy ECP, a Columbia, Maryland-based provider of software engineering, cybersecurity and systems engineering services to the U.S. Intelligence Community and Department of Defense. Synergy ECP founders Bruce Howard, Dave Wisniewski and Chad Michael will continue to lead the company while Falfurrias principals join the board to support capability expansion and growth.

Parsons Corporation acquired Columbia, Maryland-based Sealing Technologies, Inc. in a transaction valued at up to $200 million (including $175 million cash at closing and a $25 million earn-out). The acquisition expands Parsons' defensive cyber, AI/ML, edge computing, and critical infrastructure protection capabilities and brings nearly 150 SealingTech employees (70% with security clearances) into Parsons' Defense & Intelligence unit.

Battery Ventures has acquired GrammaTech's software products division, including the CodeSonar and CodeSentry product lines, and established the business as a new independent company, CodeSecure, Inc., headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. The investment is intended to drive growth of the application security testing product portfolio and enable CodeSecure to expand across end markets such as automotive, aerospace & defense and medical devices while GrammaTech retains its cybersecurity research and services business.

Owl Cyber Defense, a DC Capital Partners portfolio company, has acquired Big Bad Wolf Security (BBWS), a Maryland-based firm specializing in cloud-native infrastructure security and cloud Cross Domain Solutions (CDS). The deal expands Owl's cloud CDS and cloud IAM capabilities and brings BBWS's team and technology into Owl's product portfolio to accelerate cloud-native CDS offerings for government and commercial customers.

Eqlipse Technologies, a platform of Arlington Capital Partners, has acquired Net Vision Consultants, Inc., an analytics and engineering services provider focused on multi-modal telecom analysis and cloud analytics for defense and intelligence customers. The acquisition adds Net Vision's SIGINT, telecom-analysis and cloud analytics capabilities to Eqlipse's full-spectrum cyber, signals intelligence and identity-management engineering offerings.

Exacom has acquired SecuLore Solutions to add cybersecurity capabilities focused on public safety, critical infrastructure, and local government networks. The acquisition expands Exacom's mission-critical communications portfolio by integrating SecuLore's monitoring, MDR and security expertise to better protect public safety customers from cyber threats.

Enlightenment Capital-backed iNovex has acquired Innoplex, combining two long-standing intelligence-focused software and cybersecurity services firms. The deal creates a middle‑market intelligence and cybersecurity platform with more than 1,000 employees and roughly $2 billion in recent prime contract awards; Innoplex president Chris Hawthorne will serve as president of the combined company under iNovex leadership.

Optiv acquired Maryland-based ClearShark LLC and ClearShark Services Inc., a federal-focused cybersecurity advisor and value-added reseller. The acquisition more than doubles Optiv's federal presence, broadens its federal capabilities and expertise, and brings ClearShark's government-cleared engineering team into Optiv's platform. Terms were not disclosed.

HUMAN Security, Inc. (HUMAN) has acquired clean.io, a Baltimore-based leader in client-side anti-malvertising and digital engagement security. The acquisition (terms undisclosed) adds clean.io's malvertising protections and talent to the HUMAN Defense Platform to expand capability across advertising, publishing and e‑commerce environments.

Mission Critical Partners (MCP) has acquired Secure Halo, a cybersecurity firm that provides enterprise cyber risk assessments and managed security services for federal, state and local government agencies as well as commercial clients. The acquisition expands MCP's managed cybersecurity capabilities, strengthens talent and operational capacity, and establishes Secure Halo's Washington, D.C. metro office as an MCP Center of Excellence.

Snyk announced the acquisition of Fugue, a cloud security and compliance company, adding Fugue’s Cloud Security Posture Management and infrastructure-as-code capabilities to Snyk’s Developer Security Platform. The deal marks Snyk’s strategic expansion into the cloud security market to provide developer-first CSPM and deeper cloud-to-code security workflows.

Godspeed Capital Management LP, a lower middle-market private equity firm focused on defense and government technology, has acquired Exceptional Software Strategies, Inc. (ESS), a Linthicum Heights, Maryland-based provider of cybersecurity, software and systems engineering solutions to the U.S. Intelligence Community and Department of Defense. ESS will join Godspeed's newly formed cyber and technology solutions platform to expand capabilities, invest in technology and scale services for mission-oriented federal agencies; financial terms were not disclosed.

Godspeed Capital Management LP has made a strategic, cornerstone platform investment in Varen Technologies, a Columbia, Maryland-based provider of cybersecurity, software, and intelligence solutions for the U.S. Defense and Intelligence communities. The undisclosed investment will support technology and talent investments, business development, corporate infrastructure, and strategic acquisitions as Varen continues to be led by its existing management team.

OpenText has acquired Maryland-based network detection and response (NDR) provider Bricata and integrated its technology into the OpenText Security & Protection Cloud. The purchase brings NDR capability and engineering talent to OpenText’s security portfolio; the purchase price and Bricata revenues were not disclosed and described as not material to OpenText’s financials.

Entreda, a cybersecurity software provider and wholly owned subsidiary of Smarsh, acquired Privva, a cloud-based vendor/third-party risk assessment platform. The deal integrates Privva’s vendor risk capabilities into Entreda’s Unify platform to expand its cybersecurity compliance offerings for regulated industries such as wealth management, financial services, legal and healthcare.

TransUnion has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Sontiq, a consumer identity protection company headquartered in Nottingham, Maryland, for $638 million. The deal (from portfolio owner The Wicks Group) expands TransUnion’s consumer identity and cyber protection offerings—Sontiq generated about $85 million of revenue in 2021 with an ~40% adjusted EBITDA margin and was acquired at ~19x FY2021 adjusted EBITDA; the transaction was expected to close in Q4 2021.

ID Technologies, an Acacia Group company, has acquired Attila Security, a Maryland-based developer of the GoSilent Platform and hardware encryptors used by U.S. federal government customers. The deal integrates Attila's product IP and customers into ID Technologies' Archon secure solutions division to expand its CSfC and ultra-secure remote access capabilities.

Cybersecurity firm Coalfire acquired Neuralys Corporation, a Bethesda-based cloud penetration testing management platform. The deal brings Neuralys’ founders and team into Coalfire’s Adversary Operations practice to expand continuous offensive security and pen-testing capabilities; terms were not disclosed.

Applied Insight, a portfolio company of The Acacia Group, has acquired Bridges Inc., a Maryland-based cyber security, network engineering and big data analytics firm serving the U.S. intelligence community. The deal brings Bridges' cross-domain, AI analytics and network security capabilities into Applied Insight’s cloud and emulation product suite and expands its IP and mission-focused services for federal/intelligence customers.

BlueHalo, a national security engineering platform backed by Arlington Capital Partners, has completed acquisitions of Maryland-based Base2 LLC (Base2 Engineering) and Fortego LLC to expand its cyber and SIGINT capabilities. The add-ons bolster BlueHalo's cyber, SIGINT and CNO capabilities, add prime contracts and cleared technical staff, and support the platform's strategy to grow its presence in defense and intelligence markets.

AE Industrial Partners (AEI) has acquired PCI, a Columbia, Maryland–based provider of cybersecurity, computer network operations (CNO), cloud engineering, systems engineering, enterprise IT, and data analytics for the U.S. intelligence and defense communities. The deal — terms not disclosed — represents AEI's ninth platform investment in Fund II and is intended to accelerate PCI's growth and reach into defense, intelligence, and national security markets.

Swimlane, a Denver-based SOAR (security orchestration, automation and response) platform provider, has acquired Bethesda-headquartered Syncurity Corporation, maker of the IR Flow incident response and case management solution. The acquisition expands Swimlane's SOAR capabilities and brings Syncurity's customers and incident-response expertise into Swimlane's platform.

McAfee has acquired Light Point Security, a Baltimore-based pioneer in browser isolation, and will integrate its remote browser isolation technology into McAfee Secure Web Gateway and MVISION Unified Cloud Edge (UCE). The Light Point Security team will join McAfee; terms were not disclosed. The deal strengthens McAfee's SASE-related capabilities by adding isolation-based web protection.

Nehemiah Security, a Tysons Corner–based cybersecurity solutions provider, acquired anomaly-detection vendor Triumfant and its AtomicEye endpoint platform. The acquisition will integrate AtomicEye into Nehemiah's product portfolio to expand its advanced anomaly detection, automated remediation and endpoint visibility capabilities for enterprise and government customers.

WatchGuard Technologies has acquired the HawkEye G threat detection and response technology from Hexis Cyber Solutions, a division of The KEYW Holding Corporation. The technology will be integrated into WatchGuard's network security and MSSP enablement platform to extend visibility and automated response from the network perimeter to endpoints for small and midsize organizations and distributed enterprises.

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. acquired The Van Dyke Technology Group, Inc., a 180-person cybersecurity firm based in Maryland; terms were not disclosed. The acquisition expands Jacobs' cybersecurity capabilities—particularly identity and access management and threat mitigation—to better serve public sector clients (including the U.S. Intelligence Community and Department of Defense) and private-sector critical infrastructure customers.

Cyber Risk Management, LLC (CRM) has acquired APTEC, LLC, a Bethesda-based provider of Identity Governance and Access Management (IAM) services. APTEC will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of CRM, expanding CRM's cybersecurity and IAM capabilities for its Fortune 1000 and government clients; financial terms were not disclosed.
