Air Canada Acquires Aimia Canada (Aeroplan)

Air Canada completed the purchase of Aimia Canada Inc., the owner and operator of the Aeroplan loyalty program, from Aimia Inc. The transaction closed for approximately $497 million in gross proceeds, with roughly half of Aimia’s 1,500 global employees (about 750 people) transitioning to Air Canada; proceeds were used to repay Aimia debt and place certain funds in a restricted account.
