Environmental Services Acquisitions in Alabama

Funds affiliated with Blackstone Energy Transition Partners and other Blackstone funds have acquired Alliance Technical Group (ATG), a Decatur, Alabama–based provider of environmental testing, monitoring and compliance services. ATG operates more than 60 offices and labs across the U.S. and Canada with over 2,200 employees; terms were not disclosed.

Ares Private Equity (part of Ares Management Corporation) has acquired a majority stake in Landscape Workshop, a Birmingham, Alabama–based commercial landscaping and grounds management provider. Carousel Capital, which invested in Landscape Workshop in 2020, sold a majority position but will retain a significant stake; Ares intends to provide capital to expand the company’s regional footprint and scale through strategic acquisitions.

Circular Services has acquired Waste Recycling Inc. (WRI), a Montgomery, Alabama–based recycling services provider with facilities in Montgomery, Anniston, Tuscaloosa and Opelika. The deal expands Circular Services' materials management and recycling footprint across Alabama and the Southeastern United States, strengthening its ability to serve industrial customers — notably automotive manufacturers — and recover valuable materials at scale.

APHIX has acquired Largen Landscaping, a Huntsville, Alabama-based commercial landscaping provider founded in 1997 by Eric Largen. The deal expands APHIX's footprint in the Southeast U.S. and will have Mark Marshall lead the new APHIX Huntsville branch.

Quality Environmental Services, a Caymus Equity-backed environmental remediation platform, has acquired Lakeshore Environmental Contractors (LEC), an Alabama-based remediation and abatement specialist. The deal — announced effective February 23, 2024 — is Quality's first add-on since Caymus Equity's majority investment and doubles the platform's scale while expanding its geographic footprint and capabilities across the Gulf Coast and Southeast.

Jones Fish Hatcheries & Distributors, LLC has completed the acquisition of Aqua Services, Inc., a Guntersville, Alabama-based provider of large-scale reservoir aquatic plant control, water quality enhancement and fisheries management services. The deal, supported by Jones Fish's partner Fort Point Capital, expands Jones Fish's service offering and footprint in the Southeastern United States.

Atlanta-based Arrow Exterminators has acquired Copter Pest Control, a long-standing residential and commercial pest and termite control provider headquartered in Enterprise, Alabama. The acquisition expands Arrow’s presence in the Wiregrass and Lower Alabama regions, adds a local office and team to Arrow’s footprint (bringing Arrow to 16 service centers in Alabama), and will see Copter operate as Arrow Exterminators going forward.

Morgan Stanley Capital Partners (MSCP) has acquired a controlling interest in Alliance Technical Group, a Decatur, Alabama–based provider of air emissions testing, monitoring and analytical services, from Align Capital Partners. MSCP will partner with Alliance's management led by CEO Chris LeMay to continue geographic expansion and M&A-driven growth while the management team and employees retain a meaningful ownership stake.

Carousel Capital has recapitalized Landscape Workshop, partnering with the company's management team and McKinney Capital to provide growth capital and support continued platform expansion. Landscape Workshop is a route-based commercial landscaping services provider headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, serving over 2,800 commercial properties across nine locations in the Southeastern United States.

Kinderhook Industries has recapitalized EcoSouth Services of Mobile, LLC in partnership with EcoSouth CEO Jeff Claunch. The investment will support EcoSouth's growth as a platform in the environmental services space, including investments in on-site capabilities and add-on acquisitions across the Gulf Coast.

Pritchard Industries, a portfolio company of A&M Capital Partners II (part of the Alvarez & Marsal Capital platform), has acquired a majority interest in Professional Management of Alabama, Inc. (PMA), a Birmingham-based regional provider of janitorial and facilities services founded in 1987. The acquisition expands Pritchard's presence in Alabama (adding Montgomery coverage), strengthens its industrial and medical facility capabilities, and scales its commercial janitorial footprint in the region.
