Software Acquisitions in 2013

JDS Uniphase Corporation agreed to acquire Network Instruments, LLC from Thoma Bravo for $200 million in cash. Network Instruments, a developer of enterprise network and application-performance management solutions, will be integrated into JDSU to expand its network management and application-performance capabilities.

PointClear Solutions has acquired Worry Free Labs, a New York–based mobile UX design and development firm, to strengthen its consumer-facing mobile application and patient engagement capabilities in the mHealth market. Worry Free Labs will operate as a subsidiary led by CEO Paul Choi and the combination expands PointClear's UX and mobile design capabilities alongside its backend healthcare software expertise.

Wolters Kluwer's Tax & Accounting division has acquired Red Moon Solutions, LLC, a Sarasota-based provider of fixed asset management and tax/accounting software, including the Fixed Assets Manager (FAM) and cloud-based eTax Portal. The acquisition expands Wolters Kluwer Corporate Services' product capabilities for medium-to-large and multinational corporations; financial terms were not disclosed.

3D Systems completed the acquisition of Geomagic, Inc. for $55 million in cash. The purchase adds Geomagic's 3D sculpting, modeling, scanning and inspection software to 3D Systems' portfolio, is expected to contribute about $17 million of revenue in 2013 and strengthens 3D Systems' 3D authoring platform and reseller coverage.

Western Digital acquired Arkeia Software, a developer of data protection software and backup appliances for small and midsize businesses, in a deal that closed on Dec. 19 (price undisclosed). The acquisition adds Arkeia's software, physical and virtual appliances to Western Digital's SMB storage portfolio and is intended to strengthen WD's channel and hybrid on‑premise/cloud data protection offerings.

Triple Point Technology has acquired WAM Systems to add advanced supply chain planning and optimization capabilities to its commodity management software suite. All WAM employees joined Triple Point and WAM co‑founders, including CEO Jack Weiss, will take leadership roles to integrate and expand the combined product offering.
