Building Products Acquisitions in 2017

Sika has acquired Butterfield Color, Inc., a US-based, family-owned maker of decorative concrete colorants, sealers and stamping/texturing tools based near Chicago. The purchase (Butterfield had CHF 20 million in sales in 2016) expands Sika's product portfolio and contractor presence in North America and, combined with the earlier Scofield acquisition, positions Sika as the market leader in decorative concrete solutions.

Kele, Inc. acquired Control Consultants, Inc. (effective September 29, 2017), combining Kele's distribution scale with CCI's New England controls expertise while operating the brands separately. Richard Campbell (Kele) will serve as president and CEO of the combined company and John Donahue will continue as President of CCI; the deal expands Kele's product breadth and specialized services in building automation.

Ogdon Ventures, a family-run private equity firm, has acquired Westland Distributing Inc., a leading distributor of manufactured housing supplies in the Western United States. The firm has formed Westland Distributing Partners, LLC and hired Lou Braun as President to drive growth via a sales and marketing playbook and increased digital presence.

Champlain Capital Partners, LP has completed a recapitalization of JSI Store Fixtures, Inc., a privately owned manufacturer of high-end retail and supermarket fixtures headquartered in Milo, Maine. BDO Capital Advisors served as exclusive financial advisor to JSI on the transaction, which provides liquidity to shareholders and positions the company for strategic growth and capital investments.

OpenGate Capital, a Los Angeles-based private equity firm, has acquired Hufcor, Inc., a Janesville, Wisconsin manufacturer of operable partitions and movable wall systems. The deal was advised by Cleary Gull Inc.; OpenGate plans to accelerate Hufcor's growth and operational improvements globally.

Chicago-based private investment firm Ashland Capital Partners has acquired Boccella Precast, LLC, a Berlin, New Jersey–based manufacturer of precast concrete products that serves the New York metro Tri-State area. Terms were not disclosed; the acquisition gives Ashland a controlling interest in the company with the intent to grow and strengthen Boccella's operations in the building-products / construction markets.

Construction Supply Group, a portfolio company of private equity firm The Sterling Group, has acquired Carter-Waters, LLC from Aiglon Capital. Carter-Waters is a leading Midwest distributor of construction materials, tools and rental equipment with 19 locations across multiple states; the deal is a platform add-on to expand Construction Supply Group's geographic footprint and service capabilities.

Graycliff Partners has acquired Oberfields Holdings, LLC, a regional manufacturer and distributor of concrete hardscape and masonry products, from The Anderson Group. Terms were not disclosed; Graycliff intends to partner with Oberfields' management to pursue growth and expand the company's product offering and distribution footprint.

ACProducts, Inc. (acpi), a portfolio company of American Industrial Partners, has acquired Smart, LLC, a New Paris, Indiana-based manufacturer of stock kitchen and bath cabinets. The transaction adds Smart's manufacturing capability and dealer/distributor network to acpi's existing cabinetry platform, expanding its footprint and product offerings in the residential and institutional housing markets.

Granger, Indiana-based Hoosier Investments LLC has acquired Justice Fence Co., a Battle Creek, Michigan provider of residential and commercial fencing and gate systems. The transaction was a sale by long-time owner Kelli Rumery and was advised by Calder Capital, LLC.
